• Kithairon - Traveling along the old road to Thebes, after a 50-minute drive, Mount Kithairon, the “brother” of Helikon, will come into view. Near Plataea, there is a stunning view of the Plataean plain, the site of the pivotal Battle of Plataea between the Greeks and Persians in 479 BC. From this spot, Mount Helikon is also visible, and the upcoming route will be discussed.
• Askri - After approximately an hour and a half of travel, a brief coffee break will be taken in the village of Askri, known as the birthplace of the ancient poet Hesiod.
• Evaggelistria - The journey continues to the delightful village of Evangelistria, one of the charming settlements in the municipality of Aliartos-Thespies. Here, an off-road vehicle will be boarded to reach the trailhead leading to the legendary Hippocrene Spring.
• Elikonas - The hiking trail begins in a fir-covered forest, starting with a gentle slope that gradually becomes steeper as the destination nears. The total distance is 4.5 km (round trip) with an elevation gain of 530 meters. As the ascent continues, breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains unfold, and higher up, the coastline of Evia and its towering peaks can be admired. At the legendary Hippocrene Spring, a well-deserved break will be taken to enjoy a snack and the stunning scenery before heading back.
• Evangelistria - It’s time to recharge with a delightful lunch at a local tavern. Afterwards, the journey back to Athens will commence.
