Unveiling the Secrets of Bodrum’s Turkish Bath Experience
During a family cruise stop in Bodrum, I decided to dive into the local culture with a Turkish Bath experience. Join me as I share the highs and lows of this unique wellness journey.
A Warm Welcome to Turkish Tradition
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can be enjoyed by all ages. So, when I heard about the Turkish Bath Experience in Bodrum, I knew it was something I had to try. My husband and I, along with our 20-year-old daughter, were on a cruise that stopped in Bodrum, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to indulge in a bit of authentic Turkish culture.
We met at Onelli Turs, conveniently located near the port, and were transported to Avalon Spa. The manager greeted us warmly and explained the entire process, which was reassuring. It’s always nice to know what to expect, especially when trying something new. We changed into our bathing suits and began our journey into relaxation.
The Magic of the Hamam
Our first stop was the sauna, where we sat for a few minutes, letting the heat work its magic. Then, we moved into the steamy room for the scrub and foam massage. Watching the bubbles fill the bag was mesmerizing, and the scrub left my skin feeling rejuvenated. The experience was shared with a few others on a marble slab, and it was a communal yet personal moment.
Ladies, a little tip: wear a bathing suit top that can be unclasped easily when lying on your stomach. This part of the experience lasts about 10 minutes, but it’s a delightful 10 minutes that I wished could have lasted longer.
A Mixed Massage Experience
The package included a 30-minute oil massage, which my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed. It was firm, just the way we like it. However, our daughter’s experience was less than ideal. Her therapist, Menta, left her on the table after only 15 minutes. We mentioned this to the manager, who was apologetic and offered her a jar of cream as a gesture of goodwill.
After the massage, we relaxed in the main room with a choice of Turkish coffee or tea. I tried the coffee, and while it wasn’t to my taste, I’m glad I gave it a shot. The drive back was a bit lengthy due to traffic, so a quick bathroom stop before leaving is advisable.
Overall, the Turkish Bath with Oil Massage was a fascinating experience that added a unique touch to our Bodrum adventure. It’s a must-try for anyone looking to immerse themselves in local culture and unwind in a traditional setting.
