Walk on gemstones? Mjelle Beach is listed on TripAdvisor as one of the most popular things to do while visiting Bodø. A day trip to Mjelle is popular among locals and a great place for a quick getaway from Bodø. The sand of this secluded beach is both white and red. The red sand takes its colour from gemstone particles (garnet minerals).

Bodo Norway - hike from Cruise port / quay - Beautiful ridge-line views - The cruise ships dock in Bodo next to town, near the rail station. The visible ridge-line of mountains to the Northeast of town are pretty easy to walk to from the ship, and there are hiking paths from peak to peak throughout them. - The easiest markers for hiking are visible from the ship - the large antennae tower and the "Wood Hotel" on top of the ridge-line. - Our ship had Bodo tourist information maps available, and they show several ways to get to the closest trails, but those maps end before the ridge-line, so you may want to download some hiking trail maps to your phone before you arrive, or use a location app. (Note: we hiked up the closest path shown on the town map, but it had some slippery and steep areas, so it can be tricky for beginners). - There are SEVERAL access points to trails up to the ridge-line. The paths up to, and at the top can range from beginner to moderate or can even have some strenuous non-technical areas, so it is always wise to know your limits. - There is one EASY way to access the views...by going up the road to the antennae tower. This road is shown on the tourist map we got on the ship. I RECOMMEND using this route (up and down) to access the views at the top if your goal is a healthy walk with great views. Once you get to the top, you can decide how much more you can (or want to) hike around. - Take note, some of the trails are hard to find/follow, which is why a map or app would be helpful. Don't let that discourage you as long as you keep your bearings and look for the landmark antennae tower if you go astray. - The area is quite beautiful, so enjoy your time wandering around and above Bodo!! Additional Note: There are some signs, arrows and trail markers to the hiking areas in town, but construction on the main road prevented us from being able to follow them, so we altered our routes real-time and can't say how helpful they might be.

Stunning scenery - Fabulous hike to Mjelle beach and some beautiful lakes. Julia and Hannah were really friendly and helpful and gave us a lot of tips for the rest of our stay. It would be quite difficult to get to the parking lot for Mjelle without a car and I would really recommend this tour.

Wonderful trip in Bodø - nature / strand unbelievable - Wonderful trip in Bodø to the most beautiful beach in Norway. This trip was so beautiful. Our guide Ivar picked us up on time at the hotel - great service and then we got started. From Bodø to the beach of Mjelle. The scenery is a dream area and perhaps a piece of undiscovered corner of happiness. It was wonderful. Ivar was ready and open for any questions - really highly recommended. The hike was perfect for us, not so experienced hikers. It was very easy and a lot of fun. We would do it again anytime, and Ivar also gave us some great tips. We even did a little boat tour based on one of his tips. What can I say... this tour is a must if you stay in Bodø. Thank you Ivar for these unforgettable moments. Love greetings from Germany. Matz

The Marvel that is Mjelle - Ivar is a guide who is that rare mix of giving you space and getting you the info you need. He was gracious enough not to cancel the tour even though I was the only one who had signed up for that particular day. Besides Mjelle, he also took me to two other beautiful lakes, and even showed me a couple of his own favorite spots.

Great tour experience - It was a great tour experience. We were lucky to have good weather that day and our guide was very friendly, thoughtful and professional. We managed to see some sights and viewpoints in Bodo before heading to Mjelle Beach where we were able to do the walk at our own pace and enjoy the stunning landscape that surrounded us.

Exceeded already high expectations! - Had great days with Ivar. We were 8 guys for a few days in Bodo. Ivar helped us in advance with relevant excursions and also on the days we did things independently, he was (literally) there for us day and night. Ivar knows the area and tells relevant facts about the area on the way to the various activities. He keeps his appointments, is punctual and reliable. Best tour guide I've ever had!

Outstanding experience!! - My wife and I just returned from our trip to Norway with several amazing memories. So many wonderful experiences, with the trip to Mjelle Beach as arguably the best of them all!! The scenery of the area was breathtaking and brought out the kids in us as we eagerly explored everything that there was to offer...the red garnet sand, rock formations, tide pools, streams, waterfalls, etc. Not only was it visually outstanding, but our incredible guide Ivar helped to make the experience even more special. On the ride to the beach, he was incredibly knowledgeable and informative of what we were seeing along the way as well as what to expect, and was such a lively conversationalist that helped us get into the spirit of the day. Upon arrival and during the hike to the beach, he was wonderfully mindful of making sure we were careful about any rocks that could be slippery while embracing our curiosity of all that we were taking in. At the beach, Ivar happily took any and all questions we had as well as allowing us to explore to our hearts desire. For all of the amazing things Norway has to offer (and there were A LOT of amazing things!!!), this trip to Mjelle Beach was absolutely stunning and I cannot recommend this trip enough for anyone going to Norway!!!

Views of peaks and pink beach - We sought out the amethyst sand of the beach but found free-range sheep, majestic peaks rising across the bay and crystal clear water. It is an easy hike from the well-indicated parking lot. There were a few scattered tent campers on the site.

Spectacular day on the gem stone beach - We enjoyed the ride to the beach with Ingrid. She was very fluent in English & took her time walking us to the beach carefully to avoid any falls. It was a relaxing day!
