The day began with the sun casting its golden glow over the Caribbean waters, and I found myself aboard a lancha boat, ready to embark on an island-hopping adventure in Bocas del Toro. As we glided through the gentle waves, a pod of dolphins appeared, playfully dancing alongside us. Their presence was a delightful reminder of the vibrant marine life that thrives in these waters. It was as if they were welcoming us to their paradise, setting the tone for the day ahead.

Our first stop was Bahia Honda, a serene bay surrounded by lush mangroves. The tranquility of the place was palpable, and as we drifted closer, I spotted sloths lazily hanging from the trees, embodying the laid-back lifestyle that I have come to love in the Caribbean. The sight of these gentle creatures, coupled with the soothing sounds of the ocean, was a perfect start to our journey.

Next, we made our way to Cayo Coral, a snorkeler’s dream. The moment I plunged into the crystal-clear waters, I was enveloped by a world of color and life. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the underwater spectacle at Cayo Coral was truly something special.

Floating weightlessly, I marveled at the intricate coral formations and the bustling marine life that called them home. It was a reminder of the ocean’s incredible beauty and the importance of preserving these natural wonders. After a morning of exploration, we returned to the island for a delicious lunch, savoring fresh seafood while surrounded by the stunning scenery.

The Magic of Zapatilla Cays

Our final destination was the legendary Zapatilla Cays, two uninhabited islands that seemed to have sprung from a dream. The pristine white sand beaches and swaying palm trees were the epitome of paradise. As I strolled along the shore, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the ocean and the islands that have become my home.

The Zapatilla Cays are not only beautiful but also rich in marine life. From March to September, sea turtles come to nest on these shores, a testament to the islands’ ecological significance. As I relaxed under the shade of a palm tree, I reflected on the day’s adventures and the simple joys of island life.

Before heading back, we made a stop at the “Hollywood” natural pool, famous for its abundance of starfish. The sight of these delicate creatures scattered across the ocean floor was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery. The island-hopping tour in Bocas del Toro was more than just a journey through stunning landscapes; it was a celebration of the ocean’s beauty and the vibrant life it sustains.
