A Morning Stroll to Adventure

The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over Puerto Vallarta as I set out from my temporary abode in Zona 5 de Diciembre. The air was crisp, and the promise of a day filled with exploration and discovery had me buzzing with excitement. My destination was Zona Romántica, where I would meet my guide, Alex, and a small group of fellow adventurers for a journey to some of Puerto Vallarta’s hidden beaches.

As a former professional surfer, I’ve always had a deep connection with the ocean, and the idea of uncovering secret spots along the coastline was too enticing to resist. The walk to Zona Romántica was a perfect warm-up, allowing me to soak in the vibrant energy of the city before embarking on our trek.

Into the Jungle and Beyond

Our adventure began with a short bus ride to Boca de Tomatlan, a quaint fishing village that served as the gateway to our hiking trail. The trail itself was a delightful mix of beach and jungle, offering stunning views and a sense of seclusion that only the most hidden spots can provide.

Alex, our guide, was a wealth of knowledge, pointing out various plants and animals along the way. His enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself captivated by the stories he shared about the local flora and fauna. At one point, some of our group even sampled gum and termites from the trees—a true testament to the adventurous spirit that permeated our journey.

Our first stop was Colomitos Beach, officially the smallest beach in Mexico. The water was inviting, and I couldn’t resist taking a refreshing plunge. The ocean has always been my sanctuary, and feeling the cool water envelop me was pure bliss.

Hidden Gems and Coastal Views

As we continued our hike, each beach we encountered offered its own unique charm. While the water was a bit rough for snorkeling, the beauty of the coastline more than made up for it. Friendly locals, delicious fruit, and the occasional reptile sighting added to the allure of our trek.

Our final destination was Playa Animas, where we indulged in a well-deserved meal and some much-needed rest. The seafood was fresh and flavorful, a perfect complement to the day’s adventures.

The journey back to Boca de Tomatlan was a fitting conclusion to our exploration. A water taxi whisked us along the coast, providing a new perspective on the terrain we had just traversed. Seeing the lush greenery and hidden beaches from the water was a reminder of the incredible beauty that lies just beyond the beaten path.
