• Curral Velho - This was the island’s first settlement, now in ruins. It is located in front of a vast salt flat and the magnificent Curral Velho beach, renowned for its ancient sands and untamed waters, overseen by the Bird Islet, home to thousands of endemic birds. From July to October, it also serves as a nesting ground for sea turtles.
• Ervatão - A breathtaking bay where sea turtles come to nest, featuring a picturesque oasis just behind. The beach is part of the protected natural reserve of Boa Vista Island.
• Fundo das Figueiras - One of the three villages that form the legendary Northern Villages of Boa Vista, Fundo das Figueiras is the central one. It is the birthplace of Aristides Pereira, the first President of the Republic of Cape Verde, after whom the island’s airport is named. The village is celebrated for its traditional Cape Verdean cuisine, charming colorful houses adorned with vibrant flowers, and its iconic church, São João Baptista, which stands as its guardian.
• Joao Galego - The most populated of the three Northern villages, it is home to most of the island’s vegetable gardens, earning it the nickname “The Pantry of Boa Vista.” With approximately 400 residents, João Galego is known for its delightful main street (“rua direita”) and serves as the gateway out of the Northern villages. From here, one can connect to the so-called “Route 66” — a road that traverses the island, offering stunning views. It’s along this route that the journey returns to the starting point, bringing the excursion to a perfect close.
