The Classic Golden Circle and the Kerid Volcanic Crater
Thingvellir National Park - Begin the journey by driving from Reykjavik to the historic Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates converge, offering the unique experience of standing between two continents!
Geysir - Continue to the renowned hot spring Geysir, celebrated globally for its power and beauty. Geysir has become synonymous with this natural spectacle. Nearby, the active Strokkur hot spring erupts up to 30 meters high every few minutes. Visitors can also enjoy lunch in the Geysir area.
Gullfoss Waterfall - The next stop is Gullfoss, the golden waterfall. As one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, Gullfoss captivates with its raw power and beauty, cascading 32 meters into a rugged canyon.
Kerid Crater - These three attractions complete the classic Golden Circle, but to enhance the experience, a visit to the stunning Kerid Volcanic Crater is included. This 3,000-year-old crater is 55 meters deep and provides a unique view of Icelandic nature. Admission to Kerid is included.
Hveragerdi - Hveragerði is known for its famous greenhouses powered by green energy, horse farms, and a Geothermal Park.
Black Beach, Waterfalls, and Glacier Hike
Seljalandsfoss - Get up close to this waterfall as it cascades off the Eyjafjallajokull volcano from a height of 60 meters. A path behind the waterfall is accessible on most days during spring and summer.
Gljufrabui Waterfalls - Discover a hidden waterfall inside a cave, often missed by visitors. Guidance will be provided to locate it!
Skogafoss - Skogafoss is one of the world’s most iconic waterfalls, featured in “Game of Thrones.” Its south-facing position often results in rainbows as the 60-meter cascade creates a misty spray. Skogafoss is a popular sight, and visitors can climb to the top for a different perspective.
Solheimajokull Glacier - Part of the larger Myrdalsjokull glacier, Solheimajokull is located in the Katla UNESCO Global Geopark. Visitors can walk across this ancient blue-ice glacier with a qualified guide and all necessary safety equipment, including ropes, crampons, and helmets. Explore the crevasses, ice tunnels, and other glacial features.
Reynisfjara Beach - Visit the world-famous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, where basalt columns line the cliffs, volcanic sands meet powerful Atlantic waves, and the striking sea stacks of Reynisdrangar stand offshore.
Diamond Beach, Glacier Lagoon, and Amphibian Boat Ride
Vik - The third day begins with a brief stop in Vík Village, offering stunning views over Black Sand Beach and the surrounding hills.
Eldhraun Lava Field - Explore a barren landscape filled with moss-covered lava formations.
Hofskirkja Church - Hofskirkja, the last church of its kind built in Iceland, dates back to the 19th century. Its roof is made of deep layers of turf, surrounded by moss-covered burial mounds.
Glacier Lagoon - Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon is an extraordinary, bucket-list location featured in several Hollywood films. The scenery is stunning and ever-changing as wind and tides move the icebergs. A thrilling 45-minute amphibious boat tour is available, offering close encounters with these icy giants and possibly seals.
Fellsfjara - Just a short distance from the Glacier Lagoon is Diamond Beach, named for the sparkling fragments of multi-colored icebergs. These are sculpted into fantastic shapes by wind and waves on the black sand Atlantic beach.
After experiencing the magic of the Glacier Lagoon, the journey back to Reykjavik begins, with a rest stop in Vik before continuing to the capital city.
