This hike is easy to moderate. Guests under 16 are not permitted due to altitude. Guests should be able to hike on uneven or rocky terrain. Hikers may encounter wet, cool, or muddy conditions. Bring closed toe shoes, long pants, and a sweatshirt or sweater. The average temperature at the summit is freezing. Snow is seasonal on Mauna Kea, with heaviest snowfall during winter months. Due to high altitude this tour is not advised for those with respiratory, circulatory or heart conditions, pregnancy or poor health. Scuba divers should also be aware of altitude dangers.
