Good experience, great crew - This was our second time going out with them to see humpback whales and everything went well. The crew are great, the boat is well set-up, and we enjoyed the outing. We did not have quite the amazing experience of our first time, where one whale came up and spyhopped the bow, then swam under the boat, but that complaint goes to the whales, not Hang Loose Boat Tours.

Wow! It was really cool. - The Hang Loose whale watching tour was great and my #2 item on my bucket list for my visit. My wife really liked the bigger boat because it made her feel safe. Staff was very informative and worked hard to make sure we saw whales. We had two whales that hung around the boat for about 45 minutes. They swam underneath the boat, rolled over and surfaced to breath. Twice their tail flukes came up side by side. We also saw bottle nose dolphins and spinner dolphins. The water is clear you can 30-40 feet down or more.

Try another company - This is one of the worst whale watching I’ve been on tour with. I’ve been whale watching out of many harbors and decided to try hang loose out of Kailua Kona. Not only was the company not respecting whales by running up well within 100 yards to calves and their mothers but continued to follow the whales after they tried to swim away. While in Alaska we were informed that we had to keep 100yards away and I assume this is the same rule in Hawaii. Unfortunately the calf was recently born and could not swim very quickly. Additionally it seemed that he would run very closely to other tour boats and seemingly tried to block their views of the whales. Then at the end had the audacity to ask for reviews online and tips. Do not recommend this company unfortunately.
