- Kealakekua Bay - Enjoy snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, home to the Captain Cook Monument on The Big Island of Hawaii, in an intimate small-group setting.
Kealakekua Bay is a protected marine sanctuary, offering what is arguably the finest snorkeling in all of Hawaii. Thanks to the state’s environmental protections, Kealakekua Bay is teeming with marine life, including Nai’a (Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins), Cauliflower Coral, Yellow Tang fish, pencil urchins, and numerous other marine species that inhabit the bay.
The tour accommodates a maximum of 12 passengers, providing a more personal experience compared to the larger “cattle boats” in Kona that carry over 100 passengers. Being part of a smaller group allows for quicker boarding and disembarking, giving more time to snorkel on the stunning coral reef.
During the journey to and from Kealakekua Bay, the Captain and crew will highlight historically and culturally significant sites along the Kona coast. Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins are frequently spotted, and humpback whales can be seen during the winter months on this tour!

We embark on a journey from Keauhou Harbor into the pristine azure seas. As we set sail, our crew highlights captivating sights along the historically rich Kona coastline. South Kona is home to an array of significant Hawaiian Heritage landmarks, brimming with mana (spiritual power). We remain in proximity to the Kona coast as we navigate southwards towards Kealakekua Bay, keeping a keen eye on noteworthy marine creatures.
We might pause to marvel at the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins (Stenella longirostris) performing. These dolphins tend to rest near the shore during the day, and occasionally engage with the boat, surfing our bow wave and frolicking in our wake.
After a swift display by the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins, Humpback whales, and other fascinating features we come across en route, we reach the globally renowned Kealakekua Bay, the location of Captain James Cook’s monument.
Following an hour and a half of snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, we begin our return to the harbor.
