- Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - The majority of the visit will be spent here! All popular stops will be covered with informative commentary. The following areas will be explored: Volcano House, Visitor Center, Kilauea overlook of the Halemaumau Crater, steam vents and sulfur dioxide banks, Kilauea Iki Crater, Laumanu Crater, and Nahuku lava tube….

- Hilo Farmers Market - The largest selection of locally grown vegetables and fruits can be found at the Hilo Farmers Market, conveniently located in the historic Hilo Town. Guests have an hour for lunch in this area, which is full of restaurants and local shops.
- Rainbow Falls - One of the most iconic waterfalls, cascading down the Wailuku River in Hilo. Known for rainbows that appear when the sun hits the mist below. Many tropical trees and plants can be seen and touched in this area, including a famous 1/4 acre Banyan Tree that many tourists and locals enjoy climbing and swinging from.
- Liliʻuokalani Gardens - Explore a historic 24-acre botanical garden near Hilo Bay that hosts many species of eucalyptus trees, monkey pod trees, and island tropical vegetation. Many bridges over saltwater tide pools full of tropical fish can be viewed and explored. Hawaiian Geese called Nene’s (state bird) are often seen here too.
- Big Island Candies - An exclusive local candy factory where visitors can sample their famous island delicacies like the many macadamia nut cookies dipped in a variety of chocolates. Free samples of Kona or Kau coffee are also available! Experience and view the production crew through large windows as they carefully make, handle, and pack their amazing products!
- Richardson Beach Park - A popular black sand beach in Hilo known for Honu’s (Hawaiian green sea turtles) that swim and relax in the saltwater tide pools. Here, tourists and locals surf, swim, snorkel, and explore the many activities available at this island paradise or find a cool place under a coconut tree to relax!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Justin was awesome! This tour really covered the best spots of Hilo. Highly recommend if you are coming here! Do this the first day you get here to get the lay of the land.

Best yet - Great guide, funny and very knowledgeable. It was the best. The only thing I would do different is take the trip with a guide first so you know where to go and what to do.

Volcanoes, waterfalls, and turtles, oh my! - Always enjoy it when it is with smaller groups. Justin was great! His knowledge was wonderfully insightful yet entertaining. Always nice when they make it fun to learn. Getting around you always felt safe. Not only because of how he shows his care for his vehicle but how he is always looking out for those around him. Be it people or wildlife. Hello piggies. The time at the volcano park is well spent. Time at the waterfall, beach, Hilo, and bonus places we were able to sneak in were just enough. Made for an extremely fun filled day.

Justin is the only way to go for Volcanos, Waterfalls, gourmet chocolate stops, and private Banyan tree tours!, - I had so much fun on my first Hawaiian trip, and my parents loved it, too. Justin was so nice and funny i recommend this for everybody who wants an awesome trip. I am 11 writing this -thank you so much, Justin! You made our trip! You ROCK 🌋 Evan, Jacquelyn, and Tex

An Amazing Hilo Experience — Book This Tour - We had an incredible day exploring Hilo with Justin from Makaiʻo Tours Hawaii. Our group of ten fit perfectly in his spotless, comfortable van, and from the moment we started, we knew we were in great hands. Justin is full of fascinating knowledge about the Big Island, the volcanoes, Hawaiian history, and local culture — and he delivers it all with humor, warmth, and his awesome “late-night DJ voice” and music that kept everyone entertained all day.
We visited so many highlights without ever feeling rushed: Volcanoes National Park, Hilo Farmers Market, Rainbow Falls, Liliʻuokalani Gardens, Big Island Candies, Banyan Drive, and Richardson Ocean Park. Justin knew the best viewpoints, shared stories you’d never get on your own, and made sure our entire group — kids and adults — had a fantastic time.

Best tour guide we have ever had! - Our family of eight went on a tour with Justin. Justin is not only the tour guide, but the owner and operator of the tour company. It shows. His dedication, attention to detail, friendliness, helpfulness, and knowledge could not be surpassed. The van was super clean and stocked with umbrellas to accommodate sometimes rainy weather. Justin provided a wealth of information, including details about Hawaii, its culture and the flora and Fauna. His insight regarding the best spots to see the volcano and willingness to coordinate family photos much appreciated. Most of all, our entire family enjoyed his sense of humor and energetic personality. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to book this tour with Justin as it’ll be a highlight of your vacation.
