• Bibliotheque de Celsus - The Celsus Library is one of Ephesus’s most stunning structures. Built in 117 A.D., it served as a monumental tomb for Gaius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, the governor of the province of Asia, commissioned by his son Galius Julius Aquila. Celsus’s grave was beneath the ground floor, opposite the entrance, with a statue of Athena above it, as Athena was the goddess of wisdom.
