Walk to Mount of Temptation, where Jesus was tempted by Satan while fasting for 40 days in the desert. The Monastery dates back to the Byzantine period, with the current structure dating to 1892 AD. Enjoy a stunning panoramic view overlooking Jericho.
• Hisham’s Palace - Next, visit Hisham’s Palace, a must-see location. This expansive winter hunting retreat of Caliph Hisham Ibn Abd al Malik was magnificent when created in the 8th century, featuring baths, mosaic floors, and pillars, earning it the title ‘Versailles of the Middle East’ by archaeologists.
• Chapel of the Shepherds’ Field - Your next stop is Beit Sahour, known as the city of the shepherds. Visit the Shepherd’s Field, where the angel appeared to the shepherds to announce Jesus’ birth, then head to a local restaurant for a traditional falafel lunch.
• Church of the Nativity - From here, it’s a short distance to Bethlehem proper, where you’ll begin at the renowned Church of the Nativity, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on the site believed by many to be Jesus’ birthplace. It’s the world’s oldest church in continuous daily use. You’ll also visit the Cave of St. Jerome beneath the church, where many believe he translated the Bible.
• The Church of St. Catherine - Finally, visit the Church of St. Catherine and the Milk Grotto shrine, and view Banksy’s graffiti artworks, before returning to either Checkpoint 300 or your Bethlehem hotel, concluding your tour at 4pm.
