Embracing the Rain: Indoor Escapes in Beruwala
As the March showers grace the coastal town of Beruwala, the weather provides a perfect backdrop for exploring the rich cultural tapestry of Sri Lanka. With the forecast predicting a mix of partly cloudy skies and rain, it’s an ideal time to delve into indoor activities that offer both shelter and insight into the region’s heritage.
Start your journey with the Sigiriya-Dambulla Day Trip, a comprehensive tour that takes you to the heart of Sri Lanka’s ancient wonders. Available from 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM, this excursion is perfect for those early risers eager to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Sigiriya and Dambulla. The Sigiriya Rock Fortress, often hailed as the 8th Wonder of the World, stands as a testament to the architectural and engineering prowess of ancient times. As you ascend the fortress, the panoramic views and intricate frescoes offer a glimpse into the island’s storied past. The Dambulla Golden Rock Cave Temple, with its serene Buddha statues and vibrant murals, provides a spiritual retreat amidst the rain.
“Sigiriya Fort and Dambulla Rock temple trip - Highly recommend trip to Sigiriya fort and Dambulla rock temple. We booked the trip from home via Bentota Travel Mart which included all entrance fees, guides and lunch. Ishan drove us safely to all the excursion and pointed out interesting things on the way. I would recommend to have a guide at Sigiriya fort as from just climbing up the fort by yourself you don’t get the inside of the place. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained everything well. Just be aware there are lots of steps to climb. For the Dambulla rock temple we also had a guide so you could understand the history behind the sculptures and various rooms. Highly recommend using Bentota Travel Mart for your excursions.” - Reviewed on 2024-09-30
Cultural Adventures Amidst the Clouds
The overcast skies of Beruwala set the stage for a day of cultural exploration. On March 16th, embrace the opportunity to embark on the Galle Day Trip, available from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This journey takes you through the historic city of Galle, where the Dutch Fort stands as a symbol of colonial heritage. As you wander through the fort’s cobblestone streets, the blend of European architecture and Sri Lankan culture creates a unique atmosphere that is both nostalgic and enlightening.
The Galle Day Trip also includes a Mangrove River Safari, where you can witness the diverse flora and fauna of the Bentota River. The serene boat ride offers a chance to spot crocodiles, water monitors, and a variety of bird species, all while sheltered from the rain. The tour continues with visits to a Gem Museum, a Turtle Conservation Project, and a Tsunami Photo Museum, each offering a different perspective on the region’s history and natural beauty.
“A full and fabulous day - A full on day which included a lovely 3 course lunch. Our driver and guide was Dinesh, who was really lovely. First stop was the river safari. We had our own boat with a very knowledgeable guide. We saw fruit bats, cave bats, eagle, small crocodile, water monitor, monkeys, too much to mention. He took us to a small shaded area and chopped us pineapple and a coconut. Gem museum and mask carving were interesting. No hard sell either. Tsunami museum was solemn but interesting. The temple was amazing, a highlight (ladies cover shoulders and knees). Very beautiful and the guide provided us with offerings. The good Budda statue was huge, really impressive. Galle Fort we had about an hour to walk around, which was about right. Some good views from there. The stilt fishermen is more of a photo stop as the real fishermen do it very early or late in the day. Bet very cool to see, and our guide had paid them for our photo opportunity.” - Reviewed on 2025-02-27
