Extremely well organised, powerful experience – Jamie G was outstanding - This Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp tour was one of the most important and moving experiences of my Berlin trip, and it was also incredibly well organised from start to finish. Getting there / ABC ticket: Before the tour, clear instructions are provided about purchasing an ABC public transport ticket. This was very easy to do at the station using the ticket machines, with no stress at all. I had the Berlin Welcome Card so that covered me already but others in the group bought the day ticket and that covered all travel for the day, which is a big bonus. It’s 45 minutes in the train and about 5/10 minutes on the bus - but on a nice day’s you would usually walk - taking 25/30 minutes. Meeting point & travel: The group meets centrally in Berlin, where you are introduced to your guide. From there, you travel together by train to Oranienburg. The journey itself is used effectively, with helpful historical context explained along the way, so you arrive already understanding the significance of the site. Jamie was great at setting the scene and help prepare us in the train ride there. At Sachsenhausen – what to expect: The visit is thorough and thoughtfully paced. You can walk from the station or get the bus to the memorial, which helps set the tone. Once inside, the tour covers: • The main entrance and camp layout, explaining why Sachsenhausen was designed as a “model” camp • The roll-call area and daily life of prisoners • The barracks, with detailed explanations of living conditions • The punishment and execution areas, handled with sensitivity and respect • The memorials, including time to reflect and absorb what you’ve seen This is not rushed, but it is comprehensive. You are given space to think, ask questions, and process what you are learning. Guide – Jamie G: Our guide, Jamie G, was exceptional. His knowledge was deep, his delivery calm and respectful, and he explained complex and emotional history clearly without sensationalism. He encouraged questions and answered them thoughtfully, helping connect the history of Sachsenhausen to wider events and their relevance today. This is not an “enjoyable” tour in the traditional sense — but it is an essential one. Educational, sobering, and incredibly important. Everything from transport to guidance was handled professionally. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Berlin, especially if you have the opportunity to go with Jamie G.

Coooold weather but great experience! - I visited the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp on one of the coldest days of the year, but despite the freezing weather, our guide, the “Irish” Paul made the experience both meaningful and engaging. His guidance was incredibly insightful and thorough, offering deep historical context about the camp and social history of Germany in general. Besides the tour, Paul also took good care of everyone for returning back to the city and also generously offering other travel recs&tips in Berlin, I’m very grateful to have had Paul as our guide, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful and well-informed tour.

An Outstanding Guided Experience at Sachsenhausen - This tour is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to visit a concentration camp. Sachsenhausen was the main camp in the Berlin region and was meant to serve as a model in terms of organization as well as a training site for future camp commanders. The visit was very informative and truly interesting. Alberto (our guide) was attentive to the group members during the journeys (by train), even managing to overcome the problems we encountered. He encouraged us to ask questions and answered them in a clear and precise way. We could really feel his commitment. He also took the time to talk with each of us on the way back. As a final highlight, he shared his list of favorite places in Berlin, several tips to make the most of the city, as well as a list of films related to this period and more broadly to Berlin. He is by far the best guide we have ever had
