Kreuzberg has consistently been on the periphery – from the medieval city, through industrialization, the Wall, and now capitalism. Embark on a public history walk through Kreuzberg, emphasizing social history, memory, and urban change. Uncover the narratives of workers, immigrants, minorities, and the cultural development of this renowned neighborhood. Crafted by a public historian, the walk presents history from the viewpoint of those frequently marginalized: workers, migrants, minorities, activists, and artists. From the industrial growth along the river to the Wall, from squats and counterculture to the current gentrification, Kreuzberg showcases Berlin’s history “from below.” Participants interact with streets, bridges, and cultural spaces as dynamic archives. By merging research and storytelling, the walk transforms Kreuzberg into an open classroom where past and present converge, leaving the future as an open question.
