The Gendarmenmarkt is a renowned square in Berlin, featuring the Berlin concert hall and the French and German Churches. At the center stands a grand statue of poet Friedrich Schiller. Originally created by Johann Arnold Nering at the end of the 17th century as the Linden-Markt, it was reconstructed by Georg Christian Unger in 1773. The square is named after the cuirassier regiment Gens d’Armes, which had stables there until 1773.
