- Bull Temple - The Big Bull of Bangalore has been attracting visitors since 1537, created by Bangalore’s founder, Magadi Kempe Gowda. He discovered a large monolithic rock resembling a bull and decided to enhance its appearance. The Bull, or Nandi, is Lord Shiva’s vehicle, one of the three principal Hindu Gods. This is the fourth largest among the seven monolithic big bulls in South India. The Bull Temple is famous for the Ground Nut Fair held every November. At the hillock’s base, where Nandi sits, is the Butter Ganesh temple, along with many other temples worth visiting.
- Vidhana Soudha and Attara Kacheri - Vidhana Soudha is Bangalore’s most significant landmark, serving as the Karnataka State Parliament and seat of power. Built in 1956 by then Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthayya, it was inspired by a Russian delegation member’s critical remark in 1950. The CM chose to construct it opposite a British vestige to dominate it. With its neo-Dravidian architecture, Vidhana Soudha is considered one of the world’s top 10 parliament buildings. It can only be viewed from the outside as entry is restricted.
- Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market - The 220-year-old Tipu Palace, a summer residence for the King, is constructed in teak wood with typical Islamic architecture, showcasing the diwan-e-am and diwan-e-khas. The venue offers insights into Tipu Sultan’s history, his interactions with the French, the Anglo-Mysore wars, his contributions, and controversies. The on-site museum highlights his recognition as the Grandfather of Rocket Science globally.
- KR Market - For a glimpse of typical India, visit Krishna Rajendra Market. The market and its surroundings offer a sensory feast with vendors, workers, coolies, hawkers, buyers, cows, dogs, cycles, rickshaws, bikes, and scooters all vying for space. Heaps of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and spices are everywhere, creating order in the chaos. Experience this vibrant and bustling Indian market of essentials.
- Bangalore Palace - Built by Rev. Garett in 1878, Bangalore Palace resembles London’s Windsor Castle with its classical Tudor-style facade, turrets, and architecture. Purchased by the Wodeyar king in 1887, it remains the property of the Mysore Royal family. The government prohibits permanent construction around the palace, leaving it standing alone on 475 acres near Central Bangalore. Over the years, the palace grounds have hosted major music artists like Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Backstreet Boys, Elton John, Deep Purple, Lamb of God, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Roger Waters, Guns N’ Roses, Scorpions, and Cradle of Filth. Several temporary wedding halls on the grounds host weddings for Bangalore’s elite.
