From Setback to Discovery: A Mayan Culture Win - Our originally booked 'Maya Culture Immersion and Wellness' tour was unfortunately unavailable. After not receiving a response to our initial inquiry via Viator Message, we contacted the tour company directly through WhatsApp. We learned that due to the Belizean Bank Holiday on May 1st, they were unstaffed. Additionally, we were informed that the 'Maya Cultural Immersion' tour requires booking two days in advance, a detail not specified anywhere on the listing. The company explained that this tour requires a team of six and they had requested Viator to only accept bookings with sufficient notice. While disappointed, we appreciated that the company offered an alternative: a visit to the Altun Ha Mayan temples at no additional cost. Our driver/guide, Abner, provided transportation from our hotel, Grand Resort and Residences in Belize City, to the site about an hour away. We enjoyed exploring the ruins, visiting the on-site museum, and learning about Mayan culture, daily life, medicinal plants and doing some gift shop browsing. The tour included entry fees and a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle for a private and flexible experience. Lunch and gratuity weren't included, but prices were fair, and we gladly bought lunch for our group and tipped Abner for working on the holiday.
