There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist…

There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.
- Peace Wall - The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”.
They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
- Falls Road - Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists.
The next stop is the Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of the the most famous mural in the world Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of the Irish hunger strike in H Blocks Prison in 1981.

Unforgettable Experience - We did the Black Taxi Troubles Tour in Belfast and it was the most informative and thought-provoking experiences of our trip to Northern Ireland. Our guide, Ricky, is an Irish historian, and his depth of knowledge truly set this tour apart.
Ricky explained the complex history of the Troubles with clarity, balance, and genuine insight. He didn’t just recount dates and events he provided context, personal perspectives, and nuanced explanations that helped us understand the political and social realities behind the murals, peace walls, and neighborhoods we visited. His ability to present such a sensitive subject in an engaging, respectful, and accessible way was impressive.
Beyond his expertise, Ricky was a genuinely kind and approachable person. He welcomed questions, encouraged discussion, and made us feel completely comfortable throughout the tour. It never felt rushed, and his passion and intelligence for history was evident from start to finish.
If you’re visiting Belfast and want a deeper understanding of its past from someone who truly knows the history, I highly recommend this tour and especially Ricky as your guide. An unforgettable and enlightening experience.

Great tour, well rounded and informative - Very informative and enlightening tour. Our driver, Ricky, gave lots of incisive, unbiased information to help us understand the Troubles. The murals, peace wall and just being in the areas of most physical conflict provided great illustrations.

Just fantastic - Had a tour in very bad weather we thought they would cancel but the showed up on time and we had a brilliant tour with Gerry. Absolutely fantastic information on the tour so much we didn't know or understand and we came away with a new understanding of people's struggle and determination to have a peace. Best political tour of Belfast - Our tour of Belfast with Gerard today was outstanding and easily the best tour we’ve ever done. Learning about the Troubles was incredibly moving and at times emotional, but Gerard delivered it with respect, insight, and genuine care. His depth of knowledge truly was amazing, and he was also so friendly and engaging. We came away having learned a huge amount. An unforgettable experience that we would highly recommend.

Insightful and Unforgettable Belfast political tour - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Brendan from Black Taxi Political Tours was absolutely outstanding. He was incredibly knowledgeable, honest, and engaging, and gave a clear, balanced, and insightful explanation of the Troubles and the peace process. His firsthand understanding and willingness to answer questions openly made the experience both educational and deeply moving.
This tour added real context and depth to Belfast’s history and is something I’d recommend to anyone visiting the city. Highly recommended.

bRILLIANT EXPERIENCE - Did the black Taxi Tour, Oct 2025, Brendan was our driver , he was brilliant , very informative, very down to earth , would highly recommend Brendan & his company ,"Belfast Black Taxi Tour," would definitely use this company again ....10/10. This was on our bucket list, we were Not disappointed.

10 out of 10! No notes! - Phenomenal! Ricki is a historian (for real) and grew up in the neighborhoods directly impacted by The Troubles. We learned so much from him and he was delightful. Vehicle was spacious clean and comfortable.
