Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist…
- Shankill Road - history of the area. We begin in 1690, when King William the 3rd arrived in Ireland to defeat King James the 2nd at the famous Battle Of The Boyne. There will then be an explanation about the recent troubles, which started in 1969 and ended when the peace agreement was signed in 1998.
You will be guided through the heart of Loyalist walk around the area, where your guide will explain the loyalist wall murals and what they depict. You will have the opportunity to take your own photographs of the loyalalist murals.
- Peace Wall - The peace walls were designed to separate the Catholic (Republicans) and Protestant (Loyalist) populations. The first ‘peace lines’ were erected, following the outbreak of War also known as the 1969 “The Troubles”.
They were built as temporary structures, meant to last only six months. Due to their effective nature they were built higher, longer and made permanent. Today, the walls are adorned with art and messages of hope from tourists.
- Falls Road - Visit the famous Falls road the birth place of the Provisional IRA was formed. Each section of this road and its political mural will be explained in detail and the reasons it exists.
The next stop is the Sinn Fein press office, which is the site of the the most famous mural in the world Bobby Sands mural. You will hear about the history of the Irish hunger strike in H Blocks Prison in 1981.

10 out of 10! No notes! - Phenomenal! Ricki is a historian (for real) and grew up in the neighborhoods directly impacted by The Troubles. We learned so much from him and he was delightful. Vehicle was spacious clean and comfortable.

Amazing Experience - Had an amazing tour guide in Brendan. His local knowledge and balanced way of explaining the different cultures was very insightful. The highlight of my weekend stay. The only down side was the torrential rain but Brendan made up for that.

David was amazing! Raw, honest and great craic. - Such a moving, interesting and wonderful experience. David was fantastic. His own personal experience, peppered with wonderful charm and great humour made this such a memorable experience. Both my partner and I are history buffs and we still learned a lot - as an Irish Catholic and English Protestant mixed couple, there was also plenty for us to reflect on individually. I really couldn’t recommend this, and David, more.

Balanced view of the troubles - Really informative tour of Falls and Shankhill rd areas of Belfast, with in my opinion a balanced view of what happened during the 30 years of the troubles and how things have currently settled down. With visits to memorial gardens spend prominent murals in the area.

Black Taxi Tour with Rickey – A Belfast Must-Do! - We had an absolutely brilliant 1 hour 45 minute Black Taxi Tour in Belfast with Rickey. There were six of us, and from the moment he picked us up, Rickey made the experience personal, insightful, and deeply moving.
He shared the complex history of Belfast Trouble with passion and balance — blending humour, empathy, and first-hand stories that brought the city’s past and present to life. His explanations of the murals, peace walls, and local neighbourhoods were both educational and emotional, and he welcomed every question with honesty and warmth.
The pace was perfect and the car was comfortable. We left with a much deeper understanding of Belfast’s history and the people who live here today.
If you want more than just a sightseeing tour— book this tour with Rickey. Absolutely outstanding!

Black cab tours fantastic guide Danny L - If you ever want i guide to do the black cab tour ask for Danny L he was fantastic from Stratford to finish i would highly recommend him.
