The Great Wall of Gubeikou - Gubeikou served as a crucial military stronghold between the Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass, acting as the sole passage through the Liaodong flatland and Inner Mongolia to the central plains of China. This area held significant strategic military value, particularly during the Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Frequent battles for control of Gubeikou highlighted the essential military role of the Great Wall.
Participants will meet at the hotel and travel for 2.5 hours to Gubeikou. Upon arrival, they will stroll through an ancient village and lush farmland before ascending the Gubeikou Great Wall. After a 3-4 hour hike, they will reach the highest peak of this section, known as the 24-Hole Guard Tower. Once at the destination, participants can relax and enjoy a self-packed picnic lunch.
From the tower, the hike continues for about 1.5 hours to the campsite by the Great Wall, where tents will be ready. At the end of the day, everyone will gather for a BBQ dinner.
Jinshanling-Beijing
Jinshanling Great Wall - The day will begin with breakfast at the campsite, followed by a journey to the Jinshanling Great Wall.
It will take approximately 4 hours to reach the East 5-Hole Guard Tower. Those wishing to hike further can continue for an additional 800 meters before returning to join the group.
After descending the mountain, lunch will be served before returning to downtown Beijing.
Background:
Jinshanling was developed as a robust military defense system. It features barriers, crib and cavalry defense walls, blockhouses, and emplacements, along with openings for shooting arrows and stones. Standing on the Jinshanling Great Wall offers a breathtaking view of its grandeur and magnificence, leaving a lasting impression of this great and heroic nation.

At the center of the square stand the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the Monument to the People’s Heroes. To the south is the Qianmen Gate Tower, while to the north is the Tiananmen Gate Tower. Passing through Tiananmen Gate and Wumen Gate leads to the Palace Museum, constructed during the Ming Dynasty. This was the residence and workplace of the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors, and the entire complex is both grand and meticulously organized, with each area serving a distinct purpose. The East and West Palaces are particularly remarkable. In the Imperial Garden, ancient trees stretch towards the sky. The journey concludes with a visit to Jingshan Park, offering a view of Beijing’s central axis and a breathtaking panorama of the Forbidden City, wrapping up a truly delightful experience.
