Situated in the western suburbs of Beijing, approximately 15 kilometers from the city center, the Summer Palace served as an imperial garden during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Spanning an area of 3.009 square kilometers, with three-quarters being water, it draws inspiration from Hangzhou’s West Lake and incorporates design elements from southern Chinese gardens. The Summer Palace features Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, forming a vast landscape garden. It is the most well-preserved imperial garden and is often referred to as the “Museum of Imperial Gardens.”
