Temple of Heaven - After a delightful lunch at a local restaurant in Beijing, the tour continues to the Temple of Heaven. This was once the site of worship for the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Located southeast of the Forbidden City’s wall and east of Zhengyangmen, the temple was constructed during the reign of the Yongle Emperor in 1420.
The Temple of Heaven spans an impressive 2.72 million m². It is larger than the Forbidden City, as emperors considered themselves Sons of Heaven, and naturally, the temple should surpass their palace in size.
The temple comprises Yuanqiutan, Huangqiongyu, and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (Qiniandian) from south to north. It showcases the rich accumulation of Chinese culture and religion. The architecture and décor of the temple are truly awe-inspiring.
