Beijing-Gubeikou Great Wall-Small Potala Palace in Chengde

The Great Wall of Gubeikou - An English-speaking driver will collect guests from their hotel in Beijing at 7:00 am to travel to the Gubeikou Great Wall, which is approximately a 2-hour drive. This section of the wall was crucial in defending China against Mongol invasions and remains an untouched architectural marvel, with the last reconstruction occurring in 1567 and no renovations since.

Potala Palace (Putuo Zongcheng Temple) - After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant (if desired), guests will be transferred to Chengde to visit the Small Potala Palace, known as The Putuo Zongcheng. This Buddhist temple complex from the Qing dynasty was constructed between 1767 and 1771 during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1735–1796). Modeled after Tibet’s Potala Palace, the former sanctuary of the Dalai Lama built a century earlier, it is affectionately called the “Little Potala Palace.” After the visit, guests will be transferred to their hotel in Chengde.

Chengde-the Imperial Summer Resort- Puning Temple- Beijing

Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort - At 8:00 am, a friendly driver will meet guests at their hotel to visit the UNESCO-listed Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort, constructed between 1703 and 1792 during the Qing dynasty. This beautifully landscaped summer palace took nearly a century to complete and served as a retreat for Qing Dynasty emperors, eunuchs, courtiers, and concubines during Beijing’s hot summer months.

Temple of Universal Peace (Puning si) - After a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, the journey continues to Puning Temple, located north of the Mountain Resort. Also known as Dafo Temple, it houses a golden lacquer wood carving of a 78-foot (24 m) tall Buddha image of Guanyin. Puning Temple is the most well-preserved and magnificent complex among the Outlying Temples of Mountain Resort, Chengde. The tour concludes with a 2-hour drive back to Beijing, with an expected arrival at the hotel by 6:00 pm.
