Gubei Water Town is located in Gubeikou Town, Miyun County, Beijing. It surrounds the picturesque Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and is adjacent to the Simatai Great Wall, known for being the most perilous and awe-inspiring section of the Great Wall. Often referred to as ‘Wuzhen in Beijing’, Gubei Water Town features a blend of mountains, water, and ancient villages. The town is constructed on the site of five former natural villages of Simatai Village at the base of the Simatai Great Wall. Simatai Village evolved from Simatai Castle, built during the reign of Emperor Wanli (1573-1620) in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Although not a historical water town, it is a replica of Wuzhen Water Town in Southern China and has grown into a major sightseeing and holiday destination. Spanning an area of 3.5 square miles (9 square kilometers), the resort includes two scenic areas: Gubei Water Town and the Simatai Great Wall.
