- Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) - The Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) is the only remaining royal garden. Construction began in 1750, originally named Qingyiyuan. It was destroyed by British and French forces in 1860, but was rebuilt by Empress Dowager Cixi in 1886 and renamed the Summer Palace. The Summer Palace boasts the world’s longest corridor, measuring 728 meters and adorned with over 14,000 paintings. It also features the famous marble boat.
