Fragrant Hills Park (Xiangshan Gongyuan) - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 09:00 a.m. From there, the group will head to Fragrant Hills Park to begin the highlight day tour.
Fragrant Hill is renowned as a forest park and an imperial garden with a rich history. Key attractions include Censer Peak, the Hall of Diligent Government, the Temple of the Azure Clouds, the Memorial Hall of Sun Zhongshan, the Lake of Glasses, Fragrant Hill Temple, the Double Clean Villa, Yu Hua Villa, Zhao Temple, and the Fragrant Hill Cableway, which offers a panoramic view of the park.
Fragrant Hill is particularly famous for its maple leaves. In autumn, the leaves turn the mountain into a fiery spectacle. The ideal time to enjoy the autumn colors is around mid-October, coinciding with the Fragrant Hill Red Leaves Festival. The maple leaves typically remain vibrant for about a month.
After lunch, the tour will continue to the Summer Palace, the Bird’s Nest, and the Water Cube. -
Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) - The Summer Palace is the largest and best-preserved of the remaining imperial gardens, steeped in history and culture. Once a summer retreat for emperors, this 716-acre park remains a haven for tourists, offering relaxation and strolls through ancient pavilions, mansions, temples, bridges, and a vast lake, with opportunities to visit shops or tea houses. The beautifully landscaped gardens, halls, pavilions, and corridors are harmoniously arranged around the lake and rivers.
The Long Corridor at the Summer Palace
The lakeside paths lead visitors under shady trees or along the roofed colonnade known as the Long Corridor, featuring beautifully painted ceilings. Bridges, boats, willows, lotus flowers, and other scenic elements create a delightful atmosphere to enjoy the views. -
Olympic Park - Beijing Olympic Park, also known as the Olympic Green, hosted the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympics and will host the 2022 Winter Olympics. It has since been transformed into a comprehensive multifunctional activity center for the public.
The park includes the main venues from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, such as the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube. The architecture of these two impressive buildings is truly awe-inspiring. -
Niaochao National Stadium - The Beijing National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest, was constructed for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games at a cost of $423 million. Since the Olympics, the stadium has become a prominent landmark and tourist attraction, as well as a venue for both international and domestic sporting events.
Although relatively new to Beijing’s landscape, the National Stadium is a must-see attraction. - Water Cube - Located near the Bird’s Nest is the National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube. Its innovative design concept is inspired by the arrangement pattern of cells and the natural structure of soap bubbles. The large square structure combines modern technology with traditional Chinese culture. Historically, Chinese ancestors believed the sky is round while the earth is square, symbolizing nature’s harmony. The square Water Cube and the round Bird’s Nest beautifully embody and interpret this idea.
