This is the most renowned Buddhist temple in Beijing and one of the largest and most significant temples in China. It became a lamasery in 1744 and houses magnificent Buddha sculptures, including an 18-meter tall sculpture carved from a single piece of sandalwood.
- Temple of Confucius and Guozijian Museum - Adjacent to it is the Guozijian and Confucius Temple. The former was an ancient university complex that educated the scholar-officials who governed imperial China, while the latter was a site for honoring and venerating Confucius, a prominent philosopher and educator of ancient China.
- Baiyunguan Taoist Temple Fair - Following this, the tour proceeds to the White Cloud Temple, one of “The Three Great Ancestral Courts” of the Quanzhen School of Daoism, known as “The First Temple under Heaven.” It was originally established in the mid-8th century during the Tang dynasty, with the current structure rebuilt during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Annually, on the 19th day of the first lunar month, a festival is held at the abbey to celebrate Qiu Chuji’s birthday, as it was believed he would return to earth as an immortal on this day.
- Niujie Mosque - The next stop is the Niujie Mosque, an ancient mosque considered one of the oldest and most significant in China. It is the largest mosque in Beijing and holds great importance for Muslims in the city. The exterior architecture is Chinese, while the interior decoration blends with Arabian style.
