The Great Wall of Jiankou - Day 1 (L,D)
Depart at 8:00 AM from the hotel and travel to the Jiankou Great Wall. Located in Badaohe Village, northwest of Huairou County in Beijing, it is approximately 30 kilometers from Huairou County Town. The wall is positioned at Bohai Town, with the north part at Badaohe and the south part at Bohai. It connects to the Mutianyu Great Wall in the east and the Dazhenyu Great Wall in the west. Due to the higher and steeper mountains, this section is more winding and diverse. ‘Jiankou’ translates to ‘Arrow Nock’ in English, as the mountain resembles an arrow with the collapsed ridge forming the arrow nock. After a two-hour drive, enjoy a walk through the forest and head west on the wall. This section is seldom visited by tourists; during September and October, a few Chinese hiking enthusiasts visit, but otherwise, it remains quiet. Known for its steepness, one part is called “Ca Bian Guo,” meaning the wall is so narrow that only one person can pass at a time. Another section, “San Shi Ba Deng,” features steep stairs at a 70~80 degree angle, and the “Mini Potala Palace” is built on a narrow, steep mountain range. The journey concludes at the “Sky Stairs,” after 4~5 hours of walking. Then, a two-hour drive leads to your accommodation, followed by a delightful Chinese dinner.
Jinshanling Great Wall
Jinshanling Great Wall - Accompany your guide to witness the sunrise with a packed breakfast at the Jinshanling Great Wall, known for its complex and well-preserved fortification systems and the largest number of watchtowers. These watchtowers, standing 5-8 meters tall, are constructed from large bricks, each showcasing a unique architectural style. They appear every 50 to 100 meters, with some being half-timbered, others stone, and featuring one or two eaves. The tower roofs vary, being flat, arched, quadrangular, or octagonal. Jinshanling Great Wall boasts a robust military defense system, including barrier walls, crib walls, blockhouses, emplacements, watch-towers, stone-shooting windows, arrow-shooting holes, and cavalry defense walls, enhancing its defensibility. Standing on the Jinshanling Great Wall, one can truly admire its grandeur and magnificence.
Next, hike towards the Simatai Great Wall for another 3 hours, reaching the East 5-hole Guard Tower. For those wishing to continue, an additional 800 meters can be explored before returning. Descend from the Wall and enjoy a pleasant lunch before heading back to Beijing. The estimated arrival time at the Beijing hotel is between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
