Beautiful tour, great guide. - Kevin was wonderful guide. He took us to some beautiful of the beaten track places with breathtaking views. He is also a fountain of information and little stories that bring the Highland experience to life. The weather was cloudy which gave the whole landscape even more character. Lastly, the van was very comfortable and Kevin is a great, relaxed driver.

Lawrence and Billy were fantastic tour guides - April 30, 2024: This was our first visit to Scotland, and our adventure started in Inverness with me, wife Kathy, and sisters-in-law Chris and Judy. Lawrence greeted us at the Inverness airport after a 10-hour flight from Phoenix, AZ. We hit the ground running with little sleep on the plane. Lawrence had a nice Mercedes van which was extremely comfortable and luxurious. Before we checked into our hotel, we first visited the Balnuaran of Clava. There we walked among the cairns which were built 4,000 years ago by local farmers to bury their dead. Lawrence was deeply knowledgeable of this spot and gave us a guided tour of Cairns and all its history. He shared interesting trivia about the tall thin slab of stone. It was the inspiration of Diana Gabaldon who wrote the Outlander novels. The slab here was where Claire Randall time traveled to 18th century Scotland. Next, Lawrence took us to Battle of Culloden, (Culloden, Scotland) where the Jacobite army was outnumbered and defeated by the British army in 1746. Only 50 Brittish soldiers were killed compared to 1,500 Jacobite's killed. It was a beautiful day to be outside visiting these two historical sites. Lawrence then dropped us off at Kingsmill Hotel which was a beautiful and comfortable hotel. Day 2, we had Billy, Lawrence’s brother, as our tour guide. He was fantastic. Because the women blew their curling irons (curling tongs as they are called in Scotland) Billy searched online and called multiple stores to see if they had replacements. He finally found 2 which he ordered online at Argos, and we picked them up before heading out for the day. Billy really went above and beyond for a tour guide. I am sure he will not have an experience like this again too soon. We spent the day visiting some beautiful churches in Inverness, visiting, and feeding the highland cows Katie and Jamie at the Robertsons Farm, Dunrobin Castle, and Dornoch Cathedral. Day 3, Billy was driving us to Edinburgh, and once again it was a beautiful day. We left our Kingsmill Hotel for the last time and had a full day of driving and sightseeing to look forward to. We visited Invergarry Castle, Urquhart Castle, Fort Augustus on Loch Ness, Bridge of Oich, and watched the boats being transported through the Fort Augustus Locks. We also visited the Well of The Seven Heads Monument in Invergarry. Continuing to Edinburgh, we stopped at the Commando Memorial, which was a memorial for the Commandos who gave their lives during WWII. Next, we stopped at the visitor center at Ballachulish, Glencoe where we viewed the beautiful mountains including “Three Sisters.” It was a short visit due to an unexpected power outage. It was still a beautiful visitor center, and the mountains were beautiful. Along the drive, Billy shared with us some classic Scottish music, “Caledonia,” “Come by the Hills,” “Nae Union,” and many others. The music really complimented the scenery. Our brief and last stop before arriving in Edenborough was the Falls of Dochart in Killin. Billy safely delivered us to the Virgin Hotel, which was our home in Edinburgh for the next three days. We all highly recommend Lawrence and Billy as private tour guides. They were so friendly and accommodating. They did not rush us at any time while we were in their hands. Sometimes we modified our tour on the fly depending on what we were interested in seeing. If we could give Lawrence and Billy more than a five-star rating, we would.

Marvelous tour around Inverness - This tour was amazing! Don’t hesitate. The guides made the day. They were relaxed, we didn’t feel stressed, they kept our large group of 20 engaged, shared lots of history, stopped us by a local farm to see the highland cows, took us to Stimpson’s for lunch (ask them about this locals spot), provided our group with yummy snacks and water, and made the day unforgettable. We are still talking about what a perfect day we had in Inverness. Thank you Billie and team from Highlander Private Tours. Best tour company we’ve ever worked with.

Great day, great guide!!! - We had a wonderful day. Billy picked us up promptly and was a great guide. He listened to our priorities and was willing to accommodate our interests and requests. He shared interesting information using his charming personality and wit. Moreover, he took care of us all along the way, making sure that we were getting the best experiences. Kudos for having a sound system in the car that allowed everyone in the vehicle to hear what he was saying. Billy truly helped our group of eight become enchanted with the Highlands.

Interesting Inverness Tour - We spent a wonderful day with Lawrence Maclean as our tour guide through Inverness, Urguardt Castle, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield , we feed Highland Coos, saw the Clava Cairns & Standing Stones and saw the locks at the Caledonian Canals. As a surprise Lawrence took us to three different burial sites, he had researched before we arrived, where we found ancestors graves and he took us to a sheep dog demonstration by a local farmer. Lawrence went out of his way to accommodate all of our wants and needs, even taking us to shop for legit clan items and purchase food for our early morning train ride. We would highly recommend Lawrence to anyone looking for an inclusive tour of the Highlands and the surrounding areas.

Run - book this tour with this company - it was AMAZING - We booked the “From Inverness to Loch Ness, Cawdor Castle, Culloden" tour and the local company used was Highlander Private Tours. Our guide was Billy – and he was absolutely amazing! It was just the four of us (my sister, husband, and niece, whom we were visiting on her break from university in St. Andrews). From his pick up at our hotel to our drop off – Billy was so much fun! He listened to our interests and completely catered our tour to ensure we saw everything and a ton of extras! He personally walked with us through Culloden and gave us stories and the history – while 2 of us were Outlander fans and 2 not so much – it didn’t even matter! The Outlander fans were so thrilled with how Billy wove that into our tour, and the 2 who weren’t, were absolutely spellbound by the history. There were some places that weren’t open (Cawdor Castle), and on our journey, we discovered the Beauly Priory was closed due to renovations, but Billy ensured we were not disappointed by taking us to other fascinating sights, including old cemeteries and mausoleums (because I love them and the history he told of the occupants) to visit James Mackenzie Fraser – the gorgeous Highland Cow. Billy went above and beyond for us; once he heard we were driving to the Isle of Skye the next day (without a plan – we were just going to put the Fairy Pools in the GPS and go), while we were getting a wee dram at a distillery, Billy spent his downtime creating a stop-by-stop itinerary for us for the next two days, handwritten on two sides of a large notebook paper. We are so appreciative; without it, we would have missed so much! He even recommended the ferry to us (that we didn’t even know about), and it cut off a good chunk of our driving time and allowed us to check off everything on our “must-see” list! We plan on going back in 2026 for my niece's graduation and will be making it a large family trip – and Billy will be the one I reach out to for all touring for my family. There is no one else I would trust my family to – and I know he will make that trip as memorable as he did this tour for us. Well done, sir – and THANK you so much!

5 Stars all the way! Best Tour!! - Thank you Billy for an amazing day with my family. Billy catered our tour to the places we wanted to see, plus he add addition stops. His knowledge of the area and the history is incredible. Billy also learned we were heading to Isle of Skye next and created a two day itinerary for us to follow with directions and places to stop! Absolutely went above and beyond! Cannot say enough and high recommend Highland Private Tours! They are the best and plan to use them on our next return!

Awesome! Highlight of our Vacation! - Inverness was a stop on our 10-day cruise of the British Isles. We were initially dissapointed when all the cruise-sponsored shore excursions were booked, but this tour ended up being so much better. Our guide, Billie Maclean, was the ultimate professional and gentleman, and he made our day with him in the Scottish Highlands the highlight of our trip. His personal knowledge of the area made our experience so much more intimate than a generic coach tour. At the end of the day, we felt as if a family member had given us a private tour of their area. If we ever get the chance to return to Scotland, we will definitely use Highlander Private Tours again! Five stars!

100% recommend this tour! - We had a great time on this tour! Our tour guide, Kevin, was very knowledgeable, informative and accommodating. He took any requests on places we wanted to see. Because we were on a cruise ship and only had a limited amount of time, we felt that this tour was perfect because we saw all that the area had to offer. Thanks, Kevin, for making this the best day of our cruise! -Your friends from Michigan
