we originally booked for Tuesday, August 7th @ 1:30but trip was cancelled but we received no notification. The Ferry claimed they notified us but that was not the case. The email received @11:23 simply was a second welcome. We did go on Wednesday @9:00. Trip was ok, but hard to understand the narrator over the din. What troubles me is paying $70 for the trip and they expect to be tipped afterwards. I'm known to be generous tipper but don't think one is warranted in this case.
Would have liked to been able to spend more time on the Island. I wonder if we could have taken the 9:00 Ferry over and the 4:00 back
Actual ferry ride and captain (Ross) were great. Only thing keeping it from 3 stars was the amount of time allowed at Cape Lookout. Needed another hour to visit the lighthouse and the town. We didn’t have enough time to catch the truck to the abandoned town. It may have something to do with tides or another logical reason, but 2 hours isn’t enough time to explore this great location.
The trip was great. I just wish we had had another 30 minutes at Cape Lookout. It was so pretty. I also wish the speaker system on the boat had been a little better so I could hear what the captain was saying. He was nice guy and I would have liked to hear more about the area.
Had a nice time, the ride around the island was a bit rough and bumpy, good narration on the boat and on the truck.
The Ferry ride to and from Cape Lookout were wonderful. I wish we could have more time on the island. There is so much to do and 2 hours on the island just isn’t enough time.
The reason I was somewhat satisfied is two things were upsetting, I understand the captain letting a child sitting and steering the wheel for a short time, but on our trip there Captain Tom let a girl steer for quite awhile. First he stood over her and would turn the wheel with her help but then he turned his back to her and the front of the boat to talk to her parents. This went on for quite awhile and we and another set of passengers didn’t appreciate it. I was getting ready to say something to him but he then took over. I didn’t pay to have a 5 year old girl to steer the boat. Then on the return trip he again let her do it, but thankfully only a short while and then he kept her eye on her. I think if you do that, it should only be less than a minute, enough for her parents to get a few pictures. The second time she steered she made a turn that made him then take over the wheel. The second thing was how upon entering Beaufort, he got in a disagreement with another boater about him going too fast causing a wake. Fingers were exchanged between him and the other boaters. Totally inappropriate. The speakers on the boat weren’t working properly, so it was hard to hear the captain talking. Other than this, we enjoyed our trip.
Extremely enjoyable trip and very knowledgeable and personable crew.
I enjoyed the trip and the crew did a fine job with interesting history and stories but I found the captain’s seemingly anti-government bent a bit strange for a company holding a federal govt contract. Not that I necessarily disagreed with the comments and also understand the desire to provide some local color with the stories but I’d be worried some may take that the wrong way and an overly sensitive NPS official possibly take real offense.
Beautiful trip with great narration. Would have liked to know that would be dropped off at the island for two hours ahead of buying tickets. But since I didn’t view the website, that’s probably my own fault. Would be ideal if ferry had bottled water, especially for the return trip.
Very smooth boat ride and easy enough to just get on and get off the boat. Cape Lookout was great to see.
Expected to find more shells. Last year was dropped off at the inlet and had more shells than I could carry.
Wet Skiff ride. Bigger boat was better
The trip was good. Just would suggest that the four hour trip doesn't give time to take the beach shuttle out to the point. That was a big reason we wanted to go to Lookout was for the shells and when called to make reservations, it was not mentioned that there wouldn't be time to get to the point.
A little more time at Cape Lookout would have been nice. We were rushed to get back to the boat on time. Our captain, Tom was awesome! Really enjoyed listening to his stories about the area.
the boat ride took 1 hr+, but was advertised as being 45 minutes
Thank you for a great experience! Captain Tom was knowledgeable and fun, and we learned so much more than we expected! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the boat itself. The captain was great and we felt perfectly safe at all times, but we thought "ferry" implied a bigger boat. We had no idea it was a tiny boat with no roof or tarp until the confirmation email said it would be a "20 passenger skiff". It would have been nice to know before paying. We got wet but that was actually fun and no big deal. We will definitely book again and maybe try the ferry from Harker's next time. Thanks Captain Tom!
You need to do a better job to describe the boat and how wet you will get if it is rough. We got there safe and back but the boat from Beaufort to the Lookout I would expect most days to be bumpy and wet, not described this way in your ad.
Our tour guide was very informative and friendly. It was a beautiful day, I just wished there were seats instead of benches to sit on. I wanted to look out at the water during the ride, but had to twist around to do so. On a short ride it's no big deal, but this was the longer ride. Other than that it was great!
