- Batu Caves - Begin your journey at the renowned Batu Caves, a significant Hindu temple and shrine located in Gombak, Selangor. This limestone hill comprises a series of caves and cave temples. Visitors will encounter thousands of worshippers and tourists, especially during the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam. Although the climb up the 272 steps can be challenging, the breathtaking view of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline at the top is well worth the effort.
Monkeys playfully roam around the caves and may approach if they sense food. It’s advisable to bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, long pants, and a secure bag.
- National Mosque (Masjid Negara) - Next, visit the National Mosque (Masjid Negara), a prominent mosque in Malaysia located near the bird park and the Islamic museum. This mosque showcases a modern interpretation of traditional Islamic art, calligraphy, and ornamentation. While entry to the prayer room is restricted, visitors can explore the mosque’s interior and appreciate its architecture. Appropriate attire will be provided by the staff for both men and women.
- Thean Hou Temple - Continue to Thean Hou Temple, a magnificent 6-tiered Buddhist temple also known as the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven, who is believed to protect fishermen. The temple itself is a masterpiece, intricately adorned with Chinese dragons, phoenixes, and other mythical creatures on its beams, balustrades, ceilings, roofs, eaves, and cornices. In addition to the Goddess of Heaven, the main temple houses two other primary deities: the Goddess Shui Wei Sheng Niang on her left and the Goddess of Mercy on her right.
