The mountain’s significance is linked to the legend of the miraculous appearance of the Madonna and Child in one of its caves, known as Santa Cova (The Holy Cave). The wooden carving of the Madonna and Child is preserved in the monastery’s church and is accessible to visitors. This depiction of the Madonna is affectionately called La Moreneta (The Black Madonna) due to its dark hue.
