- Precipice Trail - The Precipice is part of the eastern face of Champlain Mountain. The Precipice Trail is the most challenging and renowned hiking trail in Acadia National Park.
- Schooner Head Overlook - Located on the east side of Mount Desert Island, just outside Acadia National Park, Schooner Head Overlook is accessible from Bar Harbor without entering the national park via Schooner Head Road or the Park Loop Road, just before the entrance gate to Sand Beach.
- Ocean Path Trailhead - Here is another option for a detour: Ocean Path Trail. If the steep inclines of Precipice Trail are not preferred, the gentle, winding path here offers a great alternative.

- Monument Cove - Monument Cove showcases the incredible power of nature. Over centuries, water and time have eroded the granite, leaving a twenty-foot tall rock pillar resembling a man-made sculpture.

- Gorham Mountain Trailhead - As the tour continues along Acadia’s Park Loop Road, Gorham Mountain rises to the right. The steep trail features a false summit, appearing to plateau before ascending further. Both the false and true summits offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape!

- Boulder Beach - The beach features large, egg-shaped stones. The ocean’s rough waves have smoothed these stones into bowling-ball sized rocks.

- Otter Cliff - Next on the drive are the breathtaking Otter Cliff and Otter Cove. At the top of Otter Cliff, there is a steep 110-foot drop to the chilly Atlantic.

- Hunters Beach Overlook - A visit to Acadia National Park is incomplete without hiking to one of Mount Desert Island’s cobblestone beaches.
- Aunt Betty Pond Carriage Road - Besides Acadia’s stunning hiking trails, there are over 45 miles of carriage roads built by millionaire philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. between 1913 and 1940. Originally designed to provide city dwellers an escape to nature, the carriage road system meanders through some of the finest forested and lakeside scenery, enjoyed by bikers, hikers, and horseback and horse-drawn carriage riders alike. Rockefeller also funded, designed, and oversaw the construction of 16 magnificent stone bridges built at various stream and gorge crossings throughout the carriage road system. Each bridge is a unique work of art, making it enjoyable to visit them all!
- Jordan Pond - The self-guided tour leads to Jordan Pond next. It’s highly recommended to pause here to enjoy the views and the restaurant. Jordan Pond was carved out by a massive glacier twenty thousand years ago.
