- Kutaisi - Kutaisi is one of the world’s oldest cities and ranks as the third-largest city in Georgia, traditionally following the capital, Tbilisi, in significance. Located 221 kilometers (137 miles) west of Tbilisi along the Rioni River, it serves as the capital of the Imereti region in the west.
- Motsameta Monastery - The Motsameta Monastery is a monastery complex in the Imereti region. Its name, meaning “Place of the Martyrs,” is linked to the noble Argveti brothers, David and Constantine, who led a rebellion against Arab occupiers in the 8th century.
- Bagrati Cathedral - Known as the Cathedral of the Dormition or the Kutaisi Cathedral, Bagrati Cathedral is an 11th-century structure located in Kutaisi, Imereti. This masterpiece of medieval Georgian architecture endured significant damage over the centuries and was gradually restored starting in the 1950s, with controversial conservation efforts concluding in 2012. These efforts led to its removal from UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The cathedral is a prominent feature on Ukimerioni Hill in central Kutaisi.
- Gelati Monastery - Gelati is a medieval monastic complex near Kutaisi in the Imereti region of western Georgia. Established during the Georgian Golden Age in 1106 by King David IV of Georgia, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Don’t miss out on the luxurious greenness of Kutaisi - I’m so impressed by the quality of these tours. This included Ubisa monastery as well as the other significant sites mentioned in the itinerary- i was dazzled…
But the whole day was enriching: a good natured and informative guide makes all the difference, so I felt very lucky to be there with David. He made sure that we proceeded at a relaxed pace and that there was enough time at each stop to take in the sights and surroundings. In terms of knowledge, he’s like a living book!
If you’re in Tbilisi and curious about the rest of Georgia, it’s definitely worth making the time to take this day trip.
