As a Canadian Signature Experience, Norquay’s Via Ferrata is a must-do activity when visiting Banff National Park. Our highly qualified ACMG-certified guides will lead you up the cliffs of Mt Norquay that hang above the Bow Valley, overlooking the town of Banff. Steel handholds, ladders, and footsteps as well as a steel safety cable are secured to the rock wall providing assistance and safety. Climbers are safely secured to the safety cable while climbing. Although no prior climbing experience is necessary, guests should be fit enough to climb a ladder and hike for a few hours in the mountains.
- Participants must check-in 30 minutes prior to departure time.
- An Exclusion of Liability Waiver must be signed by all via ferrata participants prior to tour.
- Minimum 12 years of age.
- The maximum participant weight is 120 kg (265 lbs), minimum participant weight is 40 kg (88 lbs)

CHECK IN 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO TOUR TIME at Norquay's North American Lodge, 6km (3.7 miles) from Banff, via Mt Norquay Scenic Drive. When arriving by car, go past the first two parking lots, following signs straight ahead for via ferrata. Follow short walking path to Lodge.

A Great Day with Amazing Views - A great experience from start to finish. The ferrata is in pristine condition, Matt our guide was funny, knowledgeable, skilled and very attentive to everyone’s needs. The views of Banff and the valleys are incredible.

Loved it - Very safe but surprisingly exposed and exhilarating. Would recommend it highly. We’re in the 65 yo age group and is was very doable, though at times a little strenuous.

Via Ferrata - Easily my favorite activity from our trip! Even my fiance, who is afraid of heights, had an amazing time. Everyone at Norquay was friendly and helpful. Our guide Ben was the best. He made sure everyone was safe and made the whole experience fun. He even made sure to get a few action shots for everyone. The views at the top of the mountain are stunning. I also appreciated that they had boot rentals included for anyone that needed them. While we didn’t get a chance to eat at the Cliffhouse Bistro, since you finish right next to it I’d recommend stopping for food after. Overall, the entire experience was incredible! If you are in the fence about doing it, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

They helped the wimpy girl :) - I’m a bit afraid of heights and our guides were so patient and walked me through the whole climb and could read when it was time for me to not go further. There was no judgement just support.

Fun Activity, Highly Recommend! - Booked the Via Ferrata Explorer tour and had such a great experience! Our tour guide Juan was kind, knowledgeable and made us feel safe the entire trip, and shared some great information about Banff. This was a highlight during our visit here! If anyone is looking to do a fun activity then I highly recommend this tour! I would definitely go back again.

The Ridgewalker Via Ferrata Mt Norquay Tour - The 4-hour Ridgewalker tour was one of our favorite things we did in the Banff area. Our guide, Amber, was knowledgeable, safe, calm, and a lot of fun. It was a thrilling family adventure. I felt safe the entire time. The pictures are priceless. I would highly recommend this tour. My quads were sore for days after, so this was the perfect amount of time. Try it out because you will never forget it.

Best climbing…no experience needed - Best adventure experience ever! Assumed the photos were more adventurous looking than the real thing, and wow was I wrong! No climbing experience needed, the path is safe and thoughtfully planned out. Need to be in good shape for this one! Matt was a fantastic guide!

You can do it! - What an amazing experience. I can truthfully say I wasn’t prepared for it being a true rock climbing experience but our guide Amanda was fantastic! She helped my husband and I every step with clear, encouraging instructions! She is truly a major credit to Via Ferrata. Nanny and Pop from NY got it done and have such a sense of accomplishment. We had no prior climbing experience so this was a challenge but the views and workout was amazing!
