Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project - Established in 1981 by the Wildlife Protection Society of Sri Lanka, the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery aims to protect turtles from extinction. Located near tourist areas in Galle and its surroundings, the hatchery collects and safely hatches eggs away from sea and land predators. Previously, turtle eggs were collected for consumption on this beach, but the hatchery has put an end to this practice. Many turtles are released into the sea each year to help preserve these endangered species.
