Nestled among the sheep-dotted Caucasian foothills and dramatic canyons are Azerbaijan’s most stunning mountain views and intriguing villages. The legendary ancient village of Xınalıq offers an unforgettable rustic escape, while the scenic route from Quba is a highlight in itself. The journey begins through woodlands, passing a series of barbecue cafes, and then winds through several canyons before reaching an almost deserted upland valley above the tree line. By some definitions, Xınalıq (2335m) is Europe’s highest village. During the winter season, SUVs are required to reach the village, and this service incurs an additional fee payable on-site.
