Lahıc yolu - The initial stop on the journey is the renowned “Hanging Bridge” en route to Lahij village in the Ismayilli region. Spanning the “Girdiman” river, it serves as a crossing for Zarnava village residents and is a popular tourist attraction.
Lahich - Lahic, one of Azerbaijan’s oldest settlements, is nestled in the southern foothills of the Great Caucasus on the Niyal mountain range slopes. The village, situated 1,200 to 1,500 meters above sea level, has infertile surroundings, prompting locals to pursue crafts instead of agriculture for their livelihood. Consequently, Lahic evolved into a hub of craftsmanship. The village exemplifies early urbanization in the country, featuring historic structures like mosques and hammams, cobblestone streets and squares, and a unique sewage system.
Being over 1,000 years old, it boasts one of the world’s oldest sewer systems. The houses, streets, and even the sewage system were constructed using local river stones. Today, Lahic is essentially a vibrant open-air museum.
Nohur Lake - Nohur Lake is a favored natural attraction in Gabala, drawing tourists year-round. Although swimming is strictly forbidden, numerous activities keep visitors engaged and entertained. Fishing is particularly popular, allowing for hours of enjoyment. Additionally, boat and catamaran rides are available during the day. Strolling along the lake’s shores and taking in the scenery is also a favorite pastime. Nearby, there is a restaurant and souvenir shops.
Seven Beauties Waterfall - The “Seven Beauties” waterfalls are situated in the Vendam settlement of Gabala city. These waterfalls cascade from the highest peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. At the mountain’s base, only two small waterfalls are visible. To view the other five, visitors must ascend wooden stairs, requiring some physical effort. However, a captivating sight awaits those who complete the climb. The waterfall’s surroundings are dark and cool, as it is located in a dense forest untouched by sunlight.
Tufandag Mountain Resort - The Cable Car is a city highlight. Divided into three sections, it offers a mesmerizing experience with breathtaking views of the city and the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range. The cable car ascends to 1,600-1,900 meters, reaching the mountain’s summit. Here, visitors are encouraged to enjoy a cup of coffee from a nearby restaurant while admiring the natural beauty.
Oguz & Sheki Tour
Khalkhal - Khalkhal waterfall is located 15 km from Oghuz region in Azerbaijan. This enchanting waterfall also provides fresh water to thousands of fish. Visitors have the opportunity to catch fish and have it cooked on-site.
Sheki Khan’s Palace - Constructed in the 18th century and added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2019, the Palace is small but notable for its diverse finishes and numerous murals and miniature paintings, which require days to fully appreciate. The Sheki Khans’ Palace is a historical and cultural monument of global significance. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of 18th-century palace architecture in the Caucasus and a gem of the Islamic East. Builders employed specific anti-seismic belts, allowing the palace to withstand strong earthquakes. Both the facade and interior (covering an area of 300 m²) are adorned with paintings depicting hunting and war scenes, as well as geometric and floral patterns.
Sheki Karvansaray - Yukhari Karavansarai Hotel is arguably the most fascinating hotel in town. It is a historic building with a 1.5-star rating. Despite limited amenities, the experience compensates for it. This charming place is a converted 18th-century caravanserai, featuring a two-level arcade of robust arches around a lovely central courtyard. Sheki once had five operational caravanserais, as trade routes between Baku and Tbilisi and a spur route across the mountains to Dagestan converged here. The caravanserai is not just a hotel but also one of Sheki’s most intriguing attractions. Staying here is reason enough to visit Sheki. It’s a rare opportunity to sleep in an authentic Silk-Road-era caravanserai, making this hotel a must-visit. It is also quite affordable. However, it is a government-run property, which is evident in various aspects.
Church of Kish - Kish is one of the oldest villages in present-day Azerbaijan, renowned for its church from the Caucasian Albania period. The current Saint Elisha temple was built in the 10th-12th centuries. Some scholars believe the church in Kish stands on the site where St. Elisha founded his church. Thus, the temple in Kish is often considered one of the oldest spiritual centers in the Caucasus, as St. Elisha was the first patriarch of the Church of Caucasian Albania and an early Christian leader in the Caucasus. Radiocarbon dating of artifacts found beneath the church confirms its long-standing sacred status. Notably, the famous Norwegian traveler and ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl was one of the initiators of archaeological excavations.
