It features two museums: an open-air museum where visitors can explore caves, view rock paintings, and experience the lifestyle of ancient people, and a modern, interactive museum built in 2011. Gobustan beautifully blends ancient history with modern technology.
- Mud Volcanoes - Of the approximately 800 mud volcanoes worldwide, 354 are located in Azerbaijan, accounting for about 40%. Visitors often describe the experience as akin to being on Mars, as the landscape resembles scenes from space films. It’s a perfect setting for filming a new Star Wars episode! The mud is beneficial for the skin, joints, and bones.
- Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is undoubtedly one of the most stunning temples you will ever visit. It houses the tomb of relatives of Prophet Muhammad (s.v.s).
- Baku Old City - Before continuing, there will be a stop at a local restaurant. Azerbaijani cuisine is renowned for its ability to satisfy every palate with a wide variety of dishes.
- Ateshgah - Fire Temple - Discover what was revered in Absheron before the advent of Islam. Centuries ago, fire was considered sacred, and the fire-worship religion was so deeply respected that the Novruz holiday became a national celebration, enduring through the ages. The Ateshgah Fire Temple is a convergence point for three religions: Fire-worship, Zoroastrianism, and Hinduism. This tour will reveal the commonalities among these teachings.
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Explore the origins of this religion with the Eternal Lights, mentioned in the chronicles of Atilla the Great Hun Emperor, Marco Polo, and many others. Scientists estimate the age of this “holy hearth” to be 4-5 thousand years.
- Ramana Castle - Enjoy a photo stop at the Heydar Aliyev Center. The tour concludes with a stroll around this magnificent building, designed by Zaha Hadid, which is shaped like the signature of the former president.

Wonderful day trip to discover amazing natural phenomenons - Had a wonderful day trip with Smile Azerbaijan tours on Gobustan - the tours starts at 9am and ends around 6pm.
We have seen so many beautiful natural wonders - the famous mud vulcanoes (3 types of mud vulcanoes) , one of them is even used for body treatment. In addition, we saw the fantastic Yanardag - burning mountains, a everlasting natural phenomenon due to gas, and the fire temple.
The tour worths the trip and timing is good. Regarding the entrance fees, check out what the 25 AZN combo ticket contains (instead of 40 AZN) depending on what you would like to see.

Exceptional Baku Tour Experience with Sayeed – The Best Guide We Could Ask For! - We had the most incredible full-day tour in and around Baku, and it was all thanks to our outstanding tour guide, Sayeed. From start to finish, he went above and beyond to make sure every single person in the group felt comfortable, informed, and well taken care of.
We visited around 7–8 key locations, including the Fire Temple (Ateshgah), Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain), Mud Volcanoes, Gobustan National Park, several museums, and even the first oil well in the world. Sayeed impressed us all with his depth of knowledge — not just about the main attractions, but also about the smaller landmarks and buildings we passed along the way. He shared fascinating facts and stories, effortlessly blending history, culture, and local insight in a way that made everything so much more meaningful.
What really stood out was how incredibly accommodating and thoughtful he was. He made sure everyone had access to water, helped people charge their phones by arranging chargers, and even shared his own personal hotspot with two other tour members who didn’t have data — something he offered without being asked.
Sayeed’s time management was flawless. We never felt rushed, and yet we covered a lot without any delays. He found the perfect pace — not too fast, not too slow — and made sure every stop was well-utilized and enjoyable.
Perhaps the most touching part of the day was when a woman who had back issues joined late and couldn’t sit at the back of the vehicle. Without hesitation, Sayeed gave up his own front seat for her and stood the entire day — from 9 AM to around 6 or 7 PM — just so she could be comfortable. That level of empathy and dedication is rare and truly speaks volumes about the kind of person he is.
Sayeed, thank you so much — you were not just a guide, but a true host. You made our trip smooth, rich with insight, and genuinely memorable. Your professionalism, kindness, and deep knowledge made this tour one of the best we’ve ever been on. We’re grateful for everything you did and would 100% recommend you to anyone visiting Baku.
You made Azerbaijan come alive for us.
P.s he is an amazing photographer also. Takes amazing pictures from your phone as much as you want.

A tour that I recommend to everyone - I usually don’t like to visit places with organized tours, but in this case I preferred to opt for a tour for time requirements. I am glad I made this choice because it was an extremely pleasant experience, thanks to the impeccable organization and a kind and very prepared guide. I recommend it to everyone, it is a great way to see the attractions around Baku in one day without wasting time and with a fairly contained vosto.
