- Baku Old City - The Old City of Baku, known as Icherisheher, was established on a site inhabited since the Paleolithic era. It showcases a rich tapestry of Azerbaijani culture alongside influences from Zoroastrian, Sassanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman, and Russian histories. From the Upland Plateau, visitors can view Icherisheher. The city’s fortifying walls were destroyed multiple times during foreign invasions. Historically, the town was encircled by 2 or 3 lines of walls, with deep moats connected to the sea by channels. The 12th-century walls have been preserved to this day.
The Shamakhy gates, also known as the Double Gates of the Old City, mark the entrance to the fortress. Nearby, the 12th-century Donjon castle can be found.

- Palace of the Shirvanshahs - This architectural masterpiece, dating from the 12th to 15th centuries, is located at the highest point of Icherisheher. The complex includes the palace, divankhana (a meeting place for foreign ambassadors), the palace mosque with a minaret, the mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, the eastern portal, and a bath structure. Built by Shirvanshah Khalilullah the First (1417-1462) and his son Farrukh Yasar, the palace was once surrounded by a wall with towers, serving as the inner stronghold of the Baku fortress. UNESCO describes it as “one of the pearls of Azerbaijan’s architecture.” It now operates as a museum open to tourists.
