- Palace of the Shirvanshahs - The Palace of the Shirvanshahs, constructed in the 15th century by the Shirvanshahs, is described by UNESCO as “one of the pearls of Azerbaijan’s architecture.” Situated in Baku’s Inner City, it, along with the Maiden Tower, is part of a historic monument ensemble listed under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments. The complex includes the main palace building, Divanhane, burial vaults, the shah’s mosque with a minaret, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi’s mausoleum (known as the “mausoleum of the dervish”), a portal to the east, Murad’s gate, a reservoir, and remnants of a bathhouse. Previously, an ancient mosque stood next to the mausoleum, and the bath’s ruins remain west of the tomb.

The park’s name reflects its elevated location, offering magnificent views of nearby attractions such as Baku Boulevard, Baku Bay, the Shirvanshahs Palace, the Old City of Baku, and the Maiden’s Tower. Locals refer to it as “Dagustu park,” meaning Upland Park.

It features two large and several small islands connected by decorative stone bridges, with gondolas navigating the calm, clear waters. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Mirvari (Pearl) cafe, Little Venice water park, Bahar (Spring) cinema, and other attractions were built in Baku Boulevard. The redevelopment of “Small Venetian town” included expanding the channels, adding bridges, and constructing two restaurants offering Western and Eastern cuisine. - Bahram Gur Fountain - The Bahram Gur statue is a monument and fountain located in Baku, Azerbaijan, in a small square in front of the Baku funicular. The bronze sculpture depicts Bahram Gur, the hero of Nizami’s poem “Seven Beauties,” a Sassanid Shahinshah of Iran, slaying a dragon with a sword. The monument symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, as the dragon in Eastern mythology represents evil. During Soviet times, when sculptures of world proletariat leaders and plaster figures of workers and farmers were common, creating such an allegorical composition posed significant challenges.
