Azerbaijan on a Budget: Five Days of Adventure and Discovery
Intrigued by the promise of an affordable yet enriching experience, I embarked on a five-day journey through Azerbaijan. From the historic streets of Baku to the natural wonders of Gabala, each day offered new adventures and unforgettable memories.
Discovering Baku’s Old City
Arriving in Baku, I was immediately struck by the blend of modernity and history. The cityscape is a fascinating juxtaposition of futuristic architecture and ancient landmarks. My first day was spent exploring the Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where I wandered through narrow cobblestone streets and marveled at the Maiden Tower. The atmosphere was vibrant, with locals and tourists alike enjoying the bustling Nizami Street and the serene Baku Boulevard. The professional guide provided insightful stories about the city’s past, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
The hotel accommodations were comfortable and conveniently located, allowing easy access to the city’s attractions. Each morning began with a hearty breakfast, fueling my adventures for the day. The hospitality of the locals was heartwarming, and I felt welcomed at every turn. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the opportunity to meet fellow adventurers, sharing stories and tips over cups of Azerbaijani tea.
Exploring the Wonders of Shamakhi and Lahij
The journey to Shamakhi was a scenic two-hour drive from Baku, offering glimpses of Azerbaijan’s diverse landscapes. Our first stop was the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory, where I was captivated by the vastness of the universe. The observatory’s staff were passionate about their work, and their enthusiasm was infectious. Later, we visited the charming village of Lahij, known for its traditional crafts and copperware. Walking through its quaint streets, I felt as though I had stepped back in time.
Staying at the Sakitgol Hotel in Shamakhi was a delightful experience. The serene surroundings provided a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. After a day of exploration, I enjoyed a delicious dinner with my fellow travelers, exchanging stories and laughter. The camaraderie among the group was a highlight of the trip, reminding me of the joys of shared experiences.
The Natural Beauty of Gabala
Gabala was a revelation, with its stunning natural beauty and array of activities. The 7 Beauties Waterfall was a breathtaking sight, and the tranquility of Nohurgol Lake offered a moment of reflection. The Tufandag Mountain cable car ride provided panoramic views of the region, a memory I will cherish. For those seeking a bit of adventure, the Qabala shooting center was an optional stop that added a thrill to the day.
Returning to Baku, I had some free time to explore the city at my own pace. I revisited my favorite spots and discovered new ones, savoring the last moments of my Azerbaijani adventure. The trip concluded with a special souvenir from JinTravel, a thoughtful memento of an unforgettable journey. This five-day excursion was not only affordable but also rich in culture, history, and natural beauty. I left Azerbaijan with a heart full of memories and a desire to return.
