Swayambhu Mahachaitya is an ancient religious complex situated on a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, west of Kathmandu city. The Tibetan name for the site, meaning ‘Sublime Trees’, refers to the diverse tree species on the hill. The Nepal Bhasa name, Swayambhu, translates to ‘self-originated’ or ‘self-created’.
- Patan Durbar Square - Patan Durbar is a significant attraction within the Kathmandu Valley. ‘Patan’ refers to the city, while ‘Durbar’ means palace in Nepali, and the area surrounding the palace is filled with temples and monuments, hence the name Square. Patan Durbar Square was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1970 AD.
Patan Durbar Square is located in the heart of Lalitpur and showcases Newari architecture, which flourished during the reign of the Malla kings, known for their architectural and artistic patronage. Key highlights include the Krishna Temple, Patan Museum, and Sundari Chowk.

- Pashupatinath Temple - Visiting Pashupatinath Temple offers a unique experience. It is one of the most revered Hindu temples globally, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Pashupatinath Temple is situated in the eastern part of the Kathmandu Valley, along the sacred Bagmati River. It is a significant Hindu temple in Nepal, attracting over a million devotees annually, especially during the Maha Shivaratri festival.
Visitors can also witness Hindu open cremation ceremonies on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, accompanied by cultural and religious rituals.
- Boudhanath Stupa - Boudhanath Stupa is a major attraction in the Kathmandu Valley, being the largest Buddhist temple in Nepal and the second-largest Buddhist stupa worldwide.
Boudhanath Stupa is mentioned in Newar chronicles and is surrounded by numerous monasteries. The area is heavily influenced by Tibetan culture. Known as Boudha Stupa or Jarung Kashor, it is also referred to as Khasti Chaitya or Khāsa Chaitya, and is a significant spiritual landmark representing the enlightened mind of all Buddhas, located in Boudhanath, Kathmandu, Nepal.
