- Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park - Situated on the rugged hills of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, the impressive Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue overlooks the island. This iconic landmark of Bali depicts the Hindu God Wisnu riding the mythical eagle, Garuda, which is also Indonesia’s national emblem symbolizing freedom. Standing over 120 meters tall, it surpasses both the Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer in height.
The statue is the centerpiece of GWK, a captivating 60-hectare cultural park that attracts visitors worldwide, offering a glimpse into Bali’s rich heritage through cultural performances, folklore, grand sculptures, and cinematic presentations. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the island while exploring the park on foot or by Segway. Delight in Indonesian heritage cuisine, immerse in mythology, or host events in GWK’s grand venues.
The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, designed by renowned Balinese artist Nyoman Nuarta, is crafted from copper and brass, comprising 754 modules and 25 steel segments, weighing 900 tons, with a steel weight of 1300 tons. The statue and pedestal reach a height of 120.9 meters and a width of 64 meters, thanks to Garuda’s wingspan.
- Lebuan Sait Beach - This stunning south-west beach is perfect for surfing enthusiasts, with its narrow natural hill steps leading down to the shore. Known as a prime spot for sunbathing, visitors can also encounter friendly monkeys here.
- Uluwatu Temple - Perched on the edge of a 70-meter-high cliff, this temple (pura in Balinese) is steeped in folklore, believed to be part of Dewi Danu’s petrified barque. Although a smaller temple existed earlier, it was significantly expanded by Javanese sage Empu Kuturan in the 11th century. Another sage, Dang Hyang Nirartha, is credited with constructing the padmasana shrines and is said to have attained moksha here, giving the temple its epithet Luhur.
The temple is home to monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), known for snatching visitors’ belongings. They can often be persuaded to trade items for fruit, although this behavior encourages further theft. Studies by scientists and primate behavior experts suggest that these monkeys learn bartering behavior, which is passed down to their young. New groups of Macaque monkeys introduced to the area quickly adapt and learn from the locals.
- Kecak and Fire Dance - (*An additional) 60-minute mesmerizing blend of traditional Balinese music, captivating dances, and enchanting stories held at 18:00 near the Uluwatu Temple compound. This performance is a must-see attraction in Bali, featuring hundreds of male and female dancers.
- Jimbaran Bay - * Optional visit to the renowned Jimbaran Bay, a fishing village where tourists can enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner on the beach at sunset. A wide variety of seafood dishes are available at local prices.
