The majority of climbers start their ascent of Mount Batur from Toya Bungkah village. Those in good physical condition should allocate at least two hours to reach the peak, though taking an incorrect route can extend the journey.
Unexpected rain showers are common in Kintamani, which can make the trails up Mount Batur slippery and hazardous. It is advisable for trekkers to wear appropriate footwear, as the shale can become unstable. The sharp volcanic rocks can quickly damage sandals—and feet—if proper protection is not worn.
