Transfer to Bromo

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park - The adventure begins in the morning with a car or minibus pick-up from South Bali: 5:45 AM from Seminyak or 7:30 AM from Indomaret Menwitani (a 7:00 AM pick-up from Ubud, Munduk, Pemuteran, or Gilimanuk is also available with the Signature Option). For participants already in Java, pick-up is arranged from Yogyakarta, Malang, or Surabaya. After several hours of travel, the Bali Strait is crossed by ferry to reach Java. Shortly after, a locally flavored lunch is served—the first culinary discovery of the region. By late afternoon, the village of Cemoro Lawang Bromo is reached, situated 2,300 meters above sea level. A simple and clean guesthouse awaits with a local dinner, ideal for resting and preparing for the night ascent of Bromo the following morning.

Meeting the Bromo

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park - After a 3:30 AM wake-up, a 4x4 jeep carries travelers up Mount Bromo (an active volcano at 2,300 m). The journey continues along a narrow path and up 250 steps to the summit. At the top, breathtaking views of the smoking crater at dawn create a magical moment. The sunrise over Bromo is enjoyed, surrounded by Batok (extinct, 2,400 m) and Semeru (active, 3,677 m, Java’s highest volcano). After sunrise, the “Sea of Sand,” a vast volcanic ash plain, is crossed. The Seruni viewpoint is then visited for panoramic views of the Tengger massif. After breakfast, the journey continues through villages and plantations toward Kawah Ijen, with a local lunch en route. The day ends with a traditional Javanese dinner at a guesthouse near the volcano.

Conquering the Kawah Ijen

Ijen Crater - Departure takes place at 1:00 AM to base camp (1,900 m). After a safety briefing and gear distribution (lamps, masks), a 1.5-hour hike under the stars leads to the Kawah Ijen summit (2,300 m). In the darkness, the crater is descended to witness the unique blue flames. Guides, former miners, ensure safety throughout. At sunrise, the world’s largest acid lake and the courageous sulfur workers are admired. The return to base camp and guesthouse offers a homemade breakfast and a shower. The ferry returns to Bali with drop-offs in Pemuteran, Munduk, Mengwi, Ubud, or Seminyak (Signature Option), or Mengwi or Seminyak (Essential Option).
