Giza Tour
Pyramids of Giza - The tour guide will collect guests from their hotel in a private minivan to visit the Giza Pyramids, which were constructed to last for eternity. These three renowned pyramids and their intricate burial complexes were built during a bustling construction period from approximately 2550 to 2490 B.C. The pyramids were erected by Pharaohs Khufu (the tallest), Khafre (in the background), and Menkaure (at the front). These monumental tombs are remnants of Egypt’s Old Kingdom era, constructed around 4,500 years ago.
Egyptian pharaohs anticipated becoming deities in the afterlife. To prepare for the next world, they built temples for the gods and massive pyramid tombs for themselves, filled with everything each ruler would need to guide and sustain themselves in the next world.
Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx is one of the world’s largest sculptures, measuring approximately 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. It features a lion’s body and a human head adorned with a royal headdress. The statue was carved from a single piece of limestone, and pigment residue suggests that the entire Great Sphinx was painted. According to some estimates, it would have taken about three years for 100 workers, using stone hammers and copper chisels, to complete the statue.
Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis was the first capital of Ancient Egypt. Most of the pyramids found near Cairo, numbering well over 100 in total, were built during this period when Memphis was the most important city in Egypt and likely the world.
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - The tour continues to Saqqara, a principal necropolis of the ancient city of Memphis, located about 17 km from the Giza Plateau. It was used from the 1st Dynasty until the Christian Period. Saqqara served as the official necropolis of Egypt’s main capital city, Memphis. The site’s name may be derived from the god Sokar or from an Arab tribe once residing in the area.
Nile River - Guests will then enjoy a dinner cruise on the Nile River. They will experience a few hours of delightful Egyptian cuisine, captivating belly dancers, Tanura shows, enchanting music, a live band, and the refreshing breeze on the River Nile. Guests can take pictures of the show and the stunning nightly view of the illuminated city of Cairo from the top deck. After the cruise, they will be driven back to their hotel.
Fayoum Safari, Whales Valley & Wadi El Rayan Tour
Safari Arabs - Tunis Village - The small village of Tunis (‘izbat Tunis) is located in the Fayoum oasis, on the way to Wadi Rayan. Situated on a hill facing a large saltwater lake, the village offers a breathtaking view of the desert’s edge on the other side of the lake. It is one of the most beautiful places in Egypt.
Qasr Qarun and Medinet Quta - This is one of Egypt’s richest and most treasured natural landmarks. Lake Qarun received its protectorate status not only because of its obvious beauty and importance for birds and people but also for its unparalleled historical, natural, and scientific significance.
Wadi El-Rayan - Wadi El Rayan is one of Egypt’s most famous nature reserves. Named after King El Rayan Ibn El Walid, who lived in the area with his army, the nature reserve is part of the El Fayoum governorate and is located about 75 km from El Fayoum city.
Valley of the Whales (Wadi Al-Hitan) - Wadi Al-Hitan, or Whale Valley, in Egypt’s Western Desert, contains invaluable fossil remains of the earliest, now extinct, suborder of whales, Archaeoceti. These fossils represent one of the major stories of evolution: the emergence of the whale as an ocean-going mammal from a previous life as a land-based animal. This is the most important site in the world for demonstrating this stage of evolution.
Fayoum Oasis - Known as the Fayoum, this is the only artificial oasis, created not by water springing forth from the ground but by a long canal naturally formed by the flooding Nile, dating from Biblical times, called Joseph’s canal.
This canal stretches from the Nile to the great lake of Birket Qarun. This vast lake, which on a rough day resembles the sea, gives a special character to the Fayoum. The lake was once a major site for duck hunting, and the hotels on its southern shore hosted luminaries such as Winston Churchill and King Farouk as they hunted flying birds. While there is still some duck shooting, there is now more bird watching on this lake and the nearby Wadi Rayyan, another artificially created expanse of water.
Alexandria Tour
Bibliotheca Alexandrina - The guide will pick up guests from their hotel to visit Alexandria’s ancient library, one of the greatest classical institutions. While replacing it might seem a Herculean task, the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina achieves this with aplomb. Opened in 2002, this impressive piece of modern architecture is a deliberate attempt to rekindle the brilliance of the original center of learning and culture. The complex has become one of Egypt’s major cultural venues and a stage for numerous international performers, and it houses a collection of brilliant museums.
Fort Qaitbey - The tour continues to Fort Qaitbey, one of the most important defensive strongholds, not only in Egypt but also along the Mediterranean Sea coast. It was a crucial part of Alexandria’s fortification system in the 15th century AC. Qaitbay Fort Alexandria is situated at the entrance of the eastern harbor on the eastern point of Pharos Island. It was erected on the exact site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse continued to function until the Arab conquest. Several disasters occurred, altering the lighthouse’s shape to some extent, but it still continued to function. Restoration began during Ahmed Ibn Tulun’s period in 880 H. During the 11th century, an earthquake caused damage to the octagonal part. The bottom survived, but it could only serve as a watchtower.
Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, also known as the Hill of Treasure, are regarded as a vast necropolis and royal cemetery dating back to the second century AD. The necropolis features a unique blend of Roman, Hellenistic, and Pharaonic art elements, reflected in the wall paintings, and the style of the statues, funeral objects, and tombs. The archaeological site was one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages.
Graeco-Roman Museum - The tour concludes with a visit to the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria. The museum’s highlights include Room 1, showcasing the beautiful alabaster Good Shepherd, with its large eyes and flat, regular robe, a development from the Coptic style. Part of the hall displays artifacts from the Monastery of St. Menas, west of Alexandria. Room 2 contains many architectural elements from early Christian buildings, including a central basket capital typical of Coptic art. Room 3 features a magnificent collection of metal, silver, and gold, including a silver torso of Aphrodite dating from the 2nd century. There is also a varied collection of ancient jewelry with different magnificent colors. Room 4 is devoted to Coptic textiles from some of the finest weavers in the Christian world. Room 5 showcases an amazing ancient model of a water cooling system. In Room 6, visitors can find The Apis Bull, discovered west of Pompey’s Pillar. After the tour, guests will be returned to their hotel.
