Embracing Bacalar’s Rainy Charm
Bacalar, a hidden gem in Quintana Roo, Mexico, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a weekend of rain and relaxation. As the rain gently taps on the lush foliage, the air is filled with the earthy aroma of the jungle, inviting you to explore its wonders. The weather forecast for May 24th predicts a mix of rain and partial cloudiness, with temperatures reaching up to 99.1°F. Despite the rain, the high humidity and warm temperatures create a tropical atmosphere that enhances the experience of exploring Bacalar’s natural and historical treasures.
Start your day with the Sailing Adventure on the mesmerizing waters of the Seven-Shade Lagoon. This eco-friendly sailing tour offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As you glide across the lagoon, you’ll be captivated by the vibrant hues of blue that dance beneath the surface. The tour includes stops at the Pirate’s Channel and Bird Island, where you can immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. A recent review from January 2024 highlights the tour’s unique charm:
Unique and gorgeous area worth the drive - This Bacalar tour was amazing! Seeing and learning about this unique and gorgeous area was very worth the long day/drive from Tulum. Both the guide and the sailboat captain were great as were the two restaurants we ate at. The cruise consisted of two stops for swimming at teal-water areas near Bacalar - sailing past Island of the Birds and mangrove clusters on the way. We’re definitely planning on returning to Bacalar during another trip in the future, as there is so much to see and do. (Reviewed at: 2024-01-11)
Discovering Bacalar’s Historical Treasures
As the rain subsides in the afternoon, take the opportunity to delve into Bacalar’s rich history with the Eco-Tour of the Bacalar Lagoon and Chacchoben archaeological site. This tour is available on May 25th from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, providing ample time to explore the hidden gems of the region. Begin your journey at the Chacchoben ruins, where you’ll be transported back in time to the pre-classical period of the Mayan civilization. The site is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Mayans, with its well-preserved structures and lush surroundings.
After exploring the ruins, the tour continues to the Bacalar Lagoon, famously known as “the birthplace of heaven.” Here, you’ll have the chance to relax and unwind in the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the lagoon. A review from July 2019 captures the essence of this experience:
Great tour - We booked this tour because all the excursions of Tui were too expensive. This tour was great, we got picked up by our hotel, right on time. The temples in Muyil were really beautiful and it was great that there were no other people except for our group. Once arrived in Bacalar, we had a short time to see the fort from the outside, but we couldn’t go in there. Afterwards, we went to the lagoon. Sadly it was a rainy day, but the lagoon was still very pretty. The lunch, in a traditional Mexican restaurant, was the best food we had during our time in Mexico. (Reviewed at: 2019-07-18)
